One can only guess what Socrates ' philosophy was like. He left no books, and his students – Plato, Antisthenes and Xenophon-left rather contradictory reviews. Clearly, each of them idealized the teacher, and each in a different way.
But given that Socrates went down in history as a fighter against sophists, he was a man whose philosophy sought objectivity in knowledge and absolutism in ethics.
That is, he believed that something true and something good are true and good for everyone, otherwise such concepts as truth and good cannot exist at all. In addition, in the end, he equated the good with knowledge: they say, to know what is good = to do well.
Socrates practiced a special way of conversation (dialectic), when the interlocutor (sooner or later) fell into the” place ” of vision. This is what the philosophers called ” consciousness, “and what is relevant to your situation is called”being.” In other words, Socrates did not expound philosophy, but skillfully developed a conversation that allowed the interlocutor to “see” the answer to his question with obvious clarity. On our Zen channel, we practice this kind of conversation. The channel is called “Socratic Conversations”.
The main tenets of his philosophy were statements about the need to engage in self-knowledge and that only a fool can assume that he knows and understands everything.
Socrates created a way of knowing from the whole to the parts through the relationship “sign-meaning – meaning” (And the pot of walrus becomes a work of art, the criminal is also useful). He created ” truth as a process-Maieutics, the Whole as a Microcosm is a chekuman. Socrates taught Plato, and Plato taught Aristotle , but the relationship between their philosophies was shown only by Hegel ” In what way – how to know (Plato) – what to know (Aristotle)
The two fundamental principles of Socrates ' philosophy are the need for self-knowledge and the claim that only an absolute fool can think that he knows the truth. Socrates conveyed his thoughts exclusively in oral form, so most likely they have reached us in a distorted (to varying degrees) form or not at all. However, this did not prevent many outstanding philosophers of different eras from starting from the postulates attributed to Socrates.
Socrates is a wise Man, by Nature. He's – – – a warrior!!! But Nature gave him a great gift of the sage. He is not one of the elite of Greek society, but his wisdom knows no bounds. He doesn't teach anyone, but he is surrounded by people who like his judgment and his wisdom. He answered all the questions of the society and always had his own point of view on the question asked. Wisdom is the Truth!!! Please tell me, who likes the Truth and when??? Socrates ' Philosophy – – – is His Truth!!! This is my personal opinion of Socrates as a philosopher!!! With respect.
Socrates ' society is built from the individual;his disciple Plato built from society. Both were wrong. But Socrates ' philosophy is destructive to society
If we talk about Socrates ' philosophy, then it boils down to the principle:”I know that I don't know anything.” Without knowing this, people can only think of themselves as knowledgeable, but not be so. Thus, Socrates restores the distinction between opinion and thinking that was lost in Protagoras ' statement: “Man is the measure of all things.”
