One Answer

  1. There is a lot of literature. I recommend the books that I studied myself and those that I read later:

    1. There is an excellent collection of Bannikov's articles about Russian collectors of the 18th and 20th centuries, published in 2008 by Indrik publishing house. In 2010, Molodaya Gvardiya published Semenova's book “Moscow Collectors”in the ZHZL series. This is a collection of three biographies of very important collectors.

    2. I studied the topic at the University of History and applied it to Saverkina's textbook “The History of Private Collecting in Russia”. The textbook was published in 2004 by the Department of Museology of the St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts. The quality of the book is very good. At the same time, I was introduced to a popular book by the famous Soviet historian Bokhanov, “Collectors and Patrons of Art in Russia.” The book was published by Nauka in 1989 in the series “Pages of the History of Our Motherland”. This is generally one of the first thorough disclosures of the topic, which under the USSR was not something that would be banned or hushed up, but was secondary and not very welcome.

In conclusion, I recommend you another very interesting off-topic book. But it seems to me that it can be useful for anyone who is interested in history at all. I read it only recently. We are talking about Bolton's book “Mystical Prague”. It tells the story of the Bohemian Emperor Rudolf II, patron saint of alchemists, astrologers and magicians,

The article provides information about the life and work of medieval scientists and magicians: Tycho Brahe, Johannes Kepler, Michael Mayer, Paracelsus, John Dee, and Edward Kelly. It was first published in Russian by Veche Publishing house in 2012. By the way, there is something on the topic of the question, although very little.
