A reminiscence is a reference to an abstract image from art or history, passed through the perception and memory of the author. A kind of creative reworking, reinterpretation. Sometimes reminiscence is used unconsciously, and tells more about the author and his cultural baggage, rather than about the work.
An allusion is a reference to a specific well-known fact that takes on additional meanings in the context of a new work. The allusion is most often playful or even parodic in nature.
