For some reason, this question is considered important, but it is not. As if if we say “yes”, then abortion should be banned, and if we say “no”, then you can go and beat pregnant women in the stomach with a boot. Swatting a mosquito is murder? Is it murder to drink an antibiotic? It seems obvious that yes, but no one has been jailed for it yet. And theft is obviously not murder, but they put you in jail for it without any problems
In other words, there is murder and there is murder, it is not enough to call something murder to automatically make it bad, and it is not enough to say that something is not murder to make it completely permissible.
And even if we narrow down the question to “killing a person”, then people are also killed in a variety of ways, and we consider some people's murders to be bad, while others are not.
But OK, let's say we have a purely technical question, not for the sake of moral assessments. Murder is taking a life. Life is something autonomous, separate. At the time when abortion is legal, the aborted material is not yet a separate organism, autonomous from the mother. So it's not a loss of life, it's an amputation. And it is regulated as amputation – that is, I can't decide for you that you need to amputate your leg and you just can't decide that you need to amputate your leg, but there is a regulated procedure in which this decision can be made.
Murder-deliberate deprivation of another person
's life A person is a social being with reason and consciousness, as well as a subject of socio-historical activity and culture. Distinctive features of a person: the ability to think, the ability to exercise free choice, to take responsibility for actions, the presence of moral judgments.
Abortion – artificial termination of pregnancy at an early stage, i.e. removal of the embryo / fetus from the uterus.
Embryo / fetus – an early stage of animal/human development. From the point of view of biology , it is a parasite in the mother's body. It does not have the properties and characteristics of an independent individual (a born child). It cannot have the legal capacity of a person and be a subject of legal relations.
Abortion is not murder
This is a very complex ethical issue. It boils down to determining when to assume that the fetus has become an independent organism, and not just a set of cells. From the moment of conception? But at this point, there is only one fertilized egg. Can it already be considered an organism? Probably unlikely, since the body cannot yet develop from it by itself outside the uterus of a woman, although there is another opinion. However, to consider an organism independent from the moment of its birth is already a little late, isn't it? After all, premature babies, for example, are quite independent organisms that can survive and develop normally, which means that the body is quite vital for itself for some time before birth and, therefore, it can already be considered independent, right? So this boundary, when a set of cells turns into an organism, lies somewhere between the moment of conception and the moment of birth. But when exactly? There is no consensus on this. It is clear that before reaching this time limit, abortion can hardly be considered murder, and abortion in late pregnancy is almost indistinguishable from murder. The whole question is where this border is located and the debate on this topic is still ongoing. From the point of view of the church, the moment of conception is this boundary, so from the point of view of the church, abortions do not have the right to exist at all. The scientific community is not so categorical, but there is no consensus on this.
