  1. Neither one nor the other. It is not religion, but beliefs that unite and divide people. Or perhaps it is more accurate to say that people unite and separate based on beliefs. Not only religious beliefs, but also political, moral and other beliefs can be the basis for these processes.

  2. Religion as a belief system appears around the time when a person forms the first societies (communities and tribal unions).

It is no coincidence that there are two similar but very different terms: religion and faith.

Religion is primarily a social institution that has had its own goals throughout the history of mankind. And the first of them: consolidation of society on the basis of common traditions/beliefs/culture. If we exaggerate, then the role of religion in the past is the same as that of mass culture today: it unites people all over the world.

Religious conflicts have always been accompanied by other factors: economic and political. The Crusades solved not only religious problems, but also the problem of landless knights, who now had somewhere to go. The Thirty Years ' War between Catholics and Protestants was also a Habsburg war against European monarchs. Every religious conflict can be explained not only by religious reasons. And as a rule, it is impossible to make an unambiguous conclusion about which factor was decisive.

To summarize, throughout history, religion has helped people unite into strong states (Rome, the Arab Caliphate, European kingdoms), but it has often served as an occasion to start an international conflict (the Crusades, the Thirty Years ' War, the Russo-Turkish wars).

  3. In general, the inner world, in which there is a craving for religion, is an individual world, a plural one. If it did not exist, then humanity would live quietly and peacefully. Like all things alive and inanimate. It would roll according to the strict laws of Newton and Mendel, and not buzz, as they say. Ants can do it. If the termite bed is recalculated in proportion to the growth of the termite (1 cm) and the person, then the height of the termite bed is about 1 km. Why can termites and humans not build the Tower of Babel?

“Because a human Tower must have a small room inside it for God, the Creator of all creation. And such a living space is sooooo difficult to build. We don't know how. The builders cannot agree, because they are not yet ready to understand how to create God-manhood. But without understanding how to become one with God, one cannot become one with people. Because the usual anthill is already in the forest. And people need to build a Mantis hill.

  4. Religion primarily tries to help people correct their mistakes (work on sins), that is, to become more perfect than they are.

That is, religion leads people along its own Path (read the history of your country, where and with whom your ancestors went).

And for those who agree to follow this path, it brings people together.

But those who want to go in their own direction, or do not want to go anywhere at all: leave me, I will live here somehow, it separates.

    It's like a school.

Diligent students serving time for the sake of a certificate and self-studying …

  5. Religion is the moral equality of people before the absolute. This is the strongest regulator of people's relationships in the community. Atheistic civilizations are unknown to history. Therefore, religion is one of the most powerful integrators based on the moral attitude of people to God, to the world and to each other. That is why the question is put incorrectly. Religion contains criteria for rejecting a person from sin, untruth, and unbelief, and in this sense divides them. But it divides for the sake of unity, not rejection as such.

  6. Religions have divided the once unified pagan world. And the world has been engulfed in bloody sectarian wars.

In the Christian Middle Ages, this often resulted in the genocide of non-believers. Especially in the Americas.

Within countries, religion sometimes played the role of a unifier if the national composition was homogeneous.

Under feudalism and monarchies, Christianity and other faiths replaced the ideology of political parties.

At present, the influence of Christianity in the Old World has noticeably weakened.

The role of the association under the flag of Islam is growing more and more. Sharia is not only a faith, but also a set of rules that define in detail the way of life of a devout Muslim.

The unifying role of Judaism is also great in Israel, where the religion is fully supported by the State. For example, the law does not recognize marriages of Israelis with women of other faiths.

The State also fully supports Orthodox Jewish families through taxes.

  7. Humanity already has a centuries-old experience of unification through religion. It did not give a positive result, but made people weak-willed and unable to think independently. Religion, which was intended to unite and lead people to God, itself caused the separation of peoples on a religious basis.

Religions are spiritual power over people. At the same time, there was a tempting opportunity to manipulate the minds of believers, which led to the emergence of numerous religious communities, beliefs and trends, the number of which today already exceeds 4,000. This phenomenon resulted in religious conflicts. Such conflicts can manifest themselves in the form of disagreements and disputes, competition and struggle, confrontation and religious hostility, which is associated with fanaticism and in many cases results in religious wars. And although all religions, without exception, preach peace and love, every year thousands of people die in bloody religious strife. They are not getting smaller, on the contrary, they are covering all new countries.

The only hope of people to have a future is connected only with God and with bringing all faiths to only one – to the One God. The only real possibility of saving humanity is Spiritual Unity based on the concept of a Single Divine Space.

  8. Throughout the history of the world , there have always been religious wars , the Jews persecuting the first Christians, then crusades and wars between Christians and Muslims . Even among Christians there was hostility, Catholics against Protestants, and crusaders attacked Orthodox Russia . Now the Arabs are fighting the Jews in Israel . And everyone thinks they're right . But those who live according to the Scriptures will never be at enmity among themselves , will strive for peace between people and such a majority ,

  10. Smart-unites, stupid-separates. The smart ones look for commonalities in religions, while the stupid ones look for differences and contradictions. Smart people try to highlight the main thing-ideas about good and evil, stupid people focus on the external side – rituals, fasts, opinions of priests, etc.

  11. How many religions do you know but there are certainly not 7.5 billion of them . Of course they do, but it is these associations that are the basis of many religious disagreements, because I, as a Christian, do not accept the crucifixion of Christ by the Jews and do not consider their act to be correct, or even more precisely, they killed my God or Father, if you want. Moreover, they continue to justify their vile, cowardly act in every possible way, continuing to slander It and everything connected with It, shifting their responsibility and narrow-mindedness to their own misunderstanding and the fault of Christians… Under such circumstances, how can we have any common interests ??? The same applies to other religions, but in general, religions were not invented for associations, their task is to divide, not to unite peoples ….

  12. True religion, of divine origin, unites people. Not understanding this religion, reducing it to scribbling, to blind dogmatism divides people.

  13. This is a fairly common and controversial issue

On the one hand, religion can unite in the case when a person with a specific religious belief feels unity with his or her co-thinkers or “co-religionists”. They feel fraternity, companionship, and contact with each other, even if they don't actually know each other by name. One fact is enough for them-belonging to the same religion

On the other hand, there are numerous disagreements between adherents of different faiths, which leads to division or confrontation

  14. I live in a country where the majority religion is Islam. And if you can often see how friends and communicate representatives of different social classes, representatives of different nationalities, people with different political beliefs, etc., then it is almost impossible to see two representatives of different religions communicating well with each other (who believe not just in words, but regularly attend church or mosque and know the history of their religion well). Therefore, purely according to my observations, religion, if it does not divide, then it does not unite exactly. But I think this is normal. Because all people are different. And if we remember this and the fact that each person finds something different in a particular religion, maybe there will be less religious differences.
