At the beginning of their journey, dictators can make economic and social decisions in the life of the country, but over time they begin to engage exclusively in repression, destroying the opposition and all those who are objectionable. During the reign of Emperor Bokassa I, the repression reached the point of absurdity, when about 100 schoolchildren who disagreed with the leader's policies were shot or stoned to death in prison. And this is not to mention the repression of adults.
The vanity and egocentrism of dictators with lies is also growing, as a result of which they acquire more and more luxury at public expense. They give gifts to their friends and relatives at the expense of taxes. They are capable of manipulating the judicial system to their own advantage.
Finally, the last characteristic of strong dictatorships is stagnation. Dictators can make some changes in the country at the beginning of their journey, but then they do nothing and do not adapt to the needs of their citizens.
It is impossible to say which is better – weak democracy or strong totalitarianism, because weak democracy means weak democratic institutions. When a country seems to understand that democracy is the most modern political system, but it has never lived under it and does not know what it feels like. The presidents of such republics are always inclined to exceed their powers. An example of such a system is Putin's Russia.
Nevertheless, it is safer and easier to live under a dictator whose power is based on propaganda and votes than under one whose power is based on the army, repression and terror. So my answer is that weak democracy is better in most cases. But there are exceptions, such as Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, who significantly expands the rights of women in his country and tries to reduce its ultraconservatism to moderate Islam. However, it remains to be seen what will happen in the future.
Best of all, communism, that is, an egalitarian, self-governing, decentralized society based on the principle of a peer-to-peer network, the nodal points of which are interconnected non-profit public organizations.
