This is a quote from the movie “The Shawshank Redemption”. It is said by the main character in a conversation dedicated to the fact that it is better or worse to live, enjoying what you live, or to accept the fact that you are in this position, and start to rot. So you can translate it more simply as: “Either live or exist.” Either you get the most out of every day you live, every minute, or you are always complaining about your fate and sooner or later you become a “living corpse” that eats, drinks, sleeps – but does not live at all.
