  1. It's also about what your parents are watching. Children will not perceive a popular science film included by a specialist for them if they do not see their parents watching something like this. And even more so – if the child is about five years old, he simply will not understand anything and will start to be capricious. I think I watched strictly cartoons until I was eight years old, but I wasn't even interested in feature films – boring uncles and aunts who do nothing but talk – it's mostly about timing. But if at the same time parents themselves often watch educational programs or videos from YouTube in the presence of the child – this will push him to a certain interest in the age of c, then for sure. In general, you form the interests of your children yourself, and it is better to do this before they reach adolescence – then at least some guidelines will remain in your head. And, once again, I say – this is achieved by example, and not “here, on, look – and I went to drink beer-the main thing is not to interfere with me”

  2. My father turned off all the cartoon channels on TV from childhood, and if my brother and I tried to set them up again, then we couldn't put all the channels back in their places and we were fired. I will not say that I became super-smart, often, for example, already in adulthood, I caught the thought that I missed such a layer of society, did not understand jokes, was like Mowgli in companies. Everything should be in moderation.

  3. I believe that children will become smarter from this measure. Because they will have an incentive to find a way to get to the cartoons. And older brothers or friends will probably tell you. So they'll get smarter, but some of them will also get angry.

  4. You need to understand that most preschool children only perceive cartoons well, preferably short ones, and not 1.5-2 hour full-length films, because few people have enough perseverance for this at all. In children, consciousness often switches quickly and abruptly. It is extremely optimistic to think that they will stick in front of the screen for an hour or two, listening to the academic flight of the narrator's thoughts about some scientific topic. Even the simplest, most understandable and seemingly interesting documentary for an adult can be unreal boredom for most children, simply because they are not yet physiologically ready to perceive such a presentation of information. I fully agree that at this age it is possible and necessary to show children cartoons with elements of an educational mission. I can even give an example of “Fixies”, cartoons about trains, animals, etc. Of course, children will still miss a lot of things, it will be more important for them to know who is called, which train is more beautiful, what color it has, but some of the useful information will still linger in your head for a certain period of time. And repetition, as you know, is the mother of learning.

I believe that documentaries should be shown no earlier than from the age of 7, when the child already has school experience of such concepts as “perseverance” and “it is necessary, because it is right”. But you should choose carefully. In fact, many documentaries are not so harmless, but they also have an age rating – there can easily be scenes, for example, violence of some animals over others, which clearly does not fit in with those cartoons about good dogs and squirrels that they have recently seen. There may be scenes marked “don't repeat this at home”. Such warnings are useless for children, which is really there, for many adults-too)

You should not put too much stress on the child from the very beginning of his childhood, otherwise people have everything as usual-either they don't care, or they want to raise a new Eishtein by the time they go to the 1st grade. A child is not a robot or a circus animal that needs to be trained. Do not mock your own child. No matter how much they criticize the American education system and American social values in general, I fully support their indignation at the Asian way of parenting in the style of “tiger mothers”, when a 5-year-old child can already be enrolled in music, mathematics, foreign languages, even in a sports section, and not have a childhood in fact. When they are told that the main thing is to be better than their peers in everything. Is this normal? You are raising a child, not a special Forces soldier.

Before going to school, I would focus on the cultural upbringing of the child. To develop an adequate level of obedience in the child, knowledge of the elementary foundations of cultural behavior in society, the basics of morality-this is what is really important. And there, already at school, they will give him a lot, the child himself will have a need to read or watch something, and he will ask you about it himself. You just need to stimulate this cognitive interest, skillfully adjust it.

And from purely mental – to teach reading and primitive counting.

  5. Not all cartoons are stupid and useless, and not all documentaries are boring and reasonable. Documentaries about nature, for example, may well interest a child, I have adored them since childhood.

  6. If these docfilms are interesting and not particularly long, then quite. Actually, now attempts to make children smarter go a little differently. Instead of shooting short, entertaining docks, they make educational cartoons and educational programs.
