“In Ancient Russia, there are no works that could be included in the category of purely philosophical literature. At the same time, numerous thoughts and fragments of philosophical content are scattered in works that are very diverse in subject matter and genre. Philosophical judgments and generalizations are interwoven into the general outline of the works, where they merge with the artistic form and journalistic tasks of the narrative. As a result, the object of historical and philosophical research is either a chronicle record, a word or a teaching created on a specific occasion, or even a thematic selection of sayings in collections of mixed content. The development of national culture and the formation of philosophical thought can, in essence, be considered as a single process.”
