Does it make sense to study philosophy?
I read books on philosophy, various articles, but I understand that I will not find any practical application of this knowledge. So does it make sense to continue? In fact, many famous people who talk about philosophy in our time are known primarily in other fields, and these arguments for them are nothing more than a way to show their erudition or something.
The presence or absence of” practical application ” depends on what kind of practice you have.
If there is no place for the application of philosophy in your daily practice and you are satisfied with it, then of course you do not need to study philosophy.
If you are not satisfied with this, then you need to change your practice so that the philosophy becomes of practical value. This is where the study of philosophy comes in handy. Start at the very beginning and try to see in the arguments of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle not idle curiosity, but a vital necessity, a pressing problem. They were not just shifting words from empty to empty, they were trying to solve fundamental questions of vital importance. And you don't need to solve many of these issues now, because their solutions have become commonplace over the past 2000 years, and have turned from a breakthrough into a banality.
To put it quite simply, philosophy is like cooking – there are people who like to cook for themselves and are looking for new ways to do it, and there are people who are quite satisfied with ready-made food. Being the second is normal and not a shame, but the first is necessary, because someone has to make ready-made food for the second.
It makes sense to get acquainted with the history of philosophy. It is useful and instructive to see the ways in which knowledge has made its way.
And philosophy itself, which at first united all the sciences, gradually lost its subjects, stolen by specific sciences, and in our time has essentially turned into a science about nothing.
No)) Philosophy (deep and competent) is not for study, but for practice. Why practice philosophy? It helps to build a life “according to its own patterns”. When you live your life, you will always find a Way.
Philosophy should be practiced rather than studied. The texts of other authors should encourage the philosophical work of our mind.
Philosophical research is the highest need of a reasonable person. Satisfying the research interest makes a person the happiest.
The less intelligent a person is, the closer they are to the needs of an animal.
Below the research interest is the need for social success – a semi-strict need, since it requires participation in aggressive competition with competitors.
Even lower are the basic needs of the animal, such as thirst, hunger, etc.
Which of the levels of development to climb-everyone decides for himself.
Does it make sense to go out to sea for a long voyage without maps, navigation support, and a navigator??? You don't even have a sailor twirling a finger at your temple. If you don't want to do this here, don't study it… But in the near future, a storm, reefs, shoals, as well as ship holes are guaranteed to you.
