One Answer

  1. They definitely had every chance of being acquainted.

In 1945, Tolkien taught English literature in Oscford, and then went to work in Ireland, in Galway. During this time, he often visited Connemara, as he loved nature and cycling. It was in Connemara that Wittgenstein spent a lot of time, and it was there that these two English academicians could meet.

However, Wittgenstein stayed in Connemara only until 1948, and had left it only a year earlier, before Tolkien started coming there.

So they did not meet, and Tolkien continued to wander along roads that had not yet forgotten Wittgenstein's trail… The end.
