  1. I am quite a closed person prone to prolonged depression. Most often, I want to be left behind, not touched and not loaded with their problems. I spend most of my time in soul-searching and self-deprecation. The only thing that distracts and cheers me up is the book. It doesn't really matter if it's paper, electronic, or audio. Let's say I'm listening to Harry Potter non-stop during this time period. Yes, book characters are sometimes more real than all the crap outside.

  2. The best friend of the book for me was in my childhood, in my teens, and somewhere up to 23-25 years, when I greedily read everything, excitedly. Now she has moved from the category of best friend to the category of such a close person that these delights are no longer there at every meeting, but there is a sense of kinship and understanding that we will never quarrel)))

  3. The intelligence of a nation, “I may not be quite sure and I will convey this statement in my own words,” is the sum of the personal book collections of each of us. The brain and the effectiveness of its functioning depends on the variety of neural connections and, accordingly, the richness of associative thinking. Books give this variety of mental images and associative thinking: the reader puts himself on the author's point of view, with which he compares his own point of view. Reading books, we stand on the shoulders of the giants of previous generations and see further and in detail.

It is not for nothing that the classic ironically says: “if you speak alone, you will always be right” (C). The surest way to be stupid is to strive to always be right. A friend like the book will not allow us to “always be right.” The book can not only contradict us, but also provides us with the opportunity to track how the visions of situations, views on the world order and relations in the spheres of human activity have changed or remained unchanged over the centuries and millennia.

When you take a book in your hand, you get out of the situation of “cooking in your own juice” of the usual social circle in some kitchen and so on. Unlike movies and theater, the book develops the imagination, which forces us to see what is described in the book behind the lines of words. Moreover, we usually supplement in our imagination what the book tells us.

The book is the result of following the principle once proposed by a classic: “the habit of writing makes us accurate” (C). And here is in our friends-books “such accuracy”.

  4. Reading books is a necessity for me. In my works of art, I draw inspiration, new thoughts for reflection, an opportunity to look at the situation from different angles, to see the world through the eyes of another person. Scientific literature gives me knowledge about the structure of the world, about natural phenomena, historical events and people, etc. Most of the books I read brought tangible benefits to me, made changes in my worldview and self-image. In difficult life situations, I found help in books. They answered my questions, and through them I found the best solution for myself in the circumstances. No one gave me better advice than what was written between the lines in a book. I can say with confidence that the book is my best friend.

  5. A book is a form of “storage and” transmission of information, which for a very long time was the only competitor of oral transmission and won in most parameters.

The book was the result of long-term painstaking work on aggregating and processing information and”turning it into” knowledge (optional-spiritual revelations); it allowed you to get acquainted with the area of interest at any time at any speed, both linearly sequentially and referring only to specific episodes; it provided a high speed of transmission and wide opportunities for distributing information in an undistorted form. The appearance of books for humanity is a huge breakthrough both for the development of scientific knowledge and for the formation of a cultural community.

Due to the lack of decent alternatives, for a long time, the promotion of reading books was equivalent to the promotion of cultural development and access to scientific knowledge in general. Because if you put a choice between reading fiction, educational and encyclopedic literature and трансли ” broadcast local signs, songs and sayings in your village; ask for any advice from medical to engineering to the local headman;to watch the same movie in the cinema of the district center, which is played for half a year; to go to the performances of the theater booth once a year at the fair, and in general to spend your free time having fun with husking seeds and goose fights”, then the book is, of course, the best friend.

Only here “in the modern world” books, both “fiction and non-fiction, have serious alternatives: cinema, various forms of media, scientific journals, Internet encyclopedias, “mass communication media”(forums, blogs, thequestion).
And due to the fact that publishing a book, and even more so publishing it on the Internet, is now “easy and inexpensive, on average, the reliability of a book as a source of facts”and the quality of massively available literary works decreases (but”both of these things are still”usually much”higher than a post in social networks).

For me, if anyone can be named a best friend, it's an article in an academic scientific journal. Here it will not fail: it has been subjected to strict selection by professionals and allows you to directly fall into the living source of knowledge, with a minimum of emotionally colored interpretations.
