  1. Sex is a game of reproduction. Even if the participants do not strive for procreation or are physically incapable of it, sexual relations involve semi-conscious play, as if they were striving and were capable. Thus, within the framework of sexual relations, there is always a doubling of reality – a sign of the game of Heising. The power of sexual pleasure is due to the fact that the attraction to replication is embedded in the deepest foundation of living organisms. Actually, without replication, living things would be impossible. In sexual relationships, the generic takes precedence over the individual. The boundaries of the self are blurred, and the living being dissolves into the element of the genus, merges with it – both metaphorically and literally. It is this generic experience of self-dissolution that underlies the oldest generic religions.
