    Selfishness is the deepest foundation of Western civilization. Humanism was created several centuries ago as the complete opposite and negation of the religious worldview. And it is based on the principle of selfishness. In Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, the place of the highest value was occupied by the Lord. A person was always guilty, owed everything from birth, and constantly repented.

    When it became difficult to keep people in check, the” shepherds ” of the Western nations voiced a new, secular ideology in order to push people to the other extreme. In this theory of humanism, man himself has taken the place of God. And all the other inventions were needed only to justify the glimpses of morality that somehow appear in people. Humanism also covers its predatory grin with them.

    According to the principles of humanism: “A person – his rights and freedoms are the highest value.” That's it! There is no, and there will not be in the world a being more valuable (and therefore great) than a person. When does this radiant greatness arise? That's right, at the time of birth. This radiant value is inherent in a person until death, no matter what he does, no matter how dirty he is.

    So this person would remain unconditionally valuable and great, if there were not a great many of them running around the earth. Therefore, Western thinkers have given every person rights. As it were, they tore off each of their own piece of the world, within which it is infinitely large, valuable and omnipotent. This is how the “right to private property” and all individual rights appeared. In no case can you violate or violate them!

    And what did our ancestors mean when they said “live at stake” and “punish according to the law”?

    To live by the con is to perform the actions prescribed by the con. As if limited by it. That is, those that lead everyone to the intended goal. That's all. This is a healthy conscious life. In fact, any society can exist and develop only in this way. And to live by the principle of “What is not forbidden is allowed” is cretinism. Imagine that the legislators decided to rid the people of sexual perverts. Let's say they passed a law prohibiting intercourse with: animals, birds, dead people, people of the same sex. But then there are entertainers-florophiles, ichthyophiles, and even insectophiles. The result is no powerlessness. One should live not according to prohibitions, but according to prescriptions, pursuing certain goals.

    We have a mechanism for monitoring the execution of these contracts – conscience. Something that resonates in our hearts with the Good News. This is present in us and easily copes with the assessment of human actions. Our ancestors also had a separate concept of justice. It successfully replaces all the manuals for executioners, and all the criminal codes.

    In fact, the world, as before, stands on the basis of truth, morality and justice. And the keepers of this ancient horse are you and me.

    – You should live on the stake.

    – CON is registered in us as a morality and is checked by conscience.

    – According to the LAW, outlaws (who do not live according to the law) should be punished, and the measure of it is justice.

    – It is the bearers of morality and justice who have a conscience that is the foundation of peace and prosperity in any society.

As you can see, this puzzle consists of many colorful elements.

    And despite the raging events of the eighteenth century. “left-wing” ideas, which were reflected in the works of Enlightenment thinkers, workers ' strikes and dystopias, did not become a mass trend, which led to the nationalization of production and a radical undermining of the foundations. There were revolutions and endless wars here and there.

    But even this, rather, influenced the fact that respect for private property was nurtured for centuries, people got used to working for themselves first and then for the state.

    It should also be borne in mind that Europe was last monolithic, apparently, under the Romans, and then not all of it. Empires sprang up here and there, but in geographical terms they were noticeably inferior to the empires of the East. Map of Western Europe-a parade of sovereignties, that is, modest principalities. The Holy Roman Empire was mired in fragmentation, even if it had existed formally for several centuries. Yes, Prussia, England, France, Spain and even the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth once had unprecedented power.

    But at the same time, Westerners tend to be reactionary. The French in the XVIII-XIX centuries illustrated this in the most vivid way. If they didn't like the government, they overthrew it; the king has too much power ― they limited it constitutionally, giving more powers to the parliament. It sounds exaggerated, but absolute monarchies with unlimited power have not been found in Europe for a long time. And the United States, after all, also emerged as a British colony and a huge adventure for the most courageous Europeans, and until the end of the XVIII century waged a war with the mother country for independence. In the historical memory of the European, it was laid down that it is necessary to fight for every piece of land, to improve it without abandoning it until “satisfying” times. Because no one has any reason to take away this land under the guise of institutional interests, because the state is the most important institution for servicing the population.

    To be sure, the first half of the twentieth century, which was the heyday of capitalism, brought two world wars and an increase in” leftist ” sentiment, along with an increase in pacifism and an unhealthy interest in new missionary work. The West rejected the communist platform, although it later borrowed the socialist mechanisms within the European Union.

    They interpret even paternalism in their own way.

    In the United States, it is allowed to keep firearms at home. The entry of robbers into the home allows the owner to shoot them. This is self-defense, protection of private property. Selfishness? Partly. Because the person is really above everything, in this case ― above the bureaucratic machine. “We” = (“I”+”I”+” I”) exponentially; this is, let's say, a democratic partnership of several people for the common good. It is no coincidence that the “I” will be the ego.

    Russians by the word “we” by inertia mean conciliarity, unanimity and ochlocracy (the power of the crowd). Who wasn't rebuked as a child: “Don't yak, don't stick your head out. The smartest one, or what?! Most of all necessary?!”

    And we are tempted to call them egoists, because the institute of private property in Russia is 85 years old at most. Judge for yourself: serfdom was abolished in February 1861, the USSR was formed at the end of 1922. Land to the peasants, factories to the workers, dekulakization, NEP, that's all. The Law “On Cooperation in the USSR”, which actually marked the beginning of legal individual entrepreneurship, was adopted on May 26, 1988. (today is the Day of Russian Entrepreneurship). In general, our country has traveled a short path by world standards so far, so that the primacy of private property and even more so personal freedoms is genetically fixed. And this, let me remind you, is the cornerstone of Western individuality.
