The classic work is” Gnosticism ” by G. Jonas. In the” History of Ancient Philosophy “A. Losev wrote an excellent chapter “Gnosticism”. BooksBart Ehrman's Gnostic teachings are as illuminating as proto-Orthodox Christianity in the first and fourth centuries. You should definitely read any translations of the Nag Hammadi Library, because without primary sources you can not-otherwise you will have to read only what you can learn about the Gnostics from the works of their opponents 🙂 There are several libraries of books and sources on Gnosticism on the web-they are easy to find.
