This is a synthesis of all ancient philosophy – first of all Plato and Aristotle, but also other schools: Pythagoreanism, Pyrrhonism, Orphism, and so on. General idea: the whole world is different stages of the outflow (emanation) of the beyond absolute. The lower the level, the more imperfect and coarse it is. Having originated in late antiquity (Plotinus, 3rd century AD), Neoplatonism survived this era, and it still has followers today.
