  1. From Moscow to Beijing along the main roads, via Petropavlovsk and Ulaanbaatar, approximately 6940 km.

The average speed of a person is 5-10 km/h. The average distance that an ordinary person can travel in a day is between 20 and 50 km, but from experience I can say that with very long multi-day hikes, the average speed always tends to the minimum value – so to Beijing, you will most likely move at an average speed of 20 km per day, regardless of how Stakhanov your first week will be.

In addition, at least 1-2 times a week, you will need a day without walking, as with such loads, your legs will often be overloaded or simply chafed. You should also keep in mind that in bad weather or heavy snow, the road may become impassable – and your speed in such months as March, November and January may drop to 10 km per day.

So, 6940 km when driving 20 miles in a day out of 347 days, we add here 75 days (averaged value between 1 and 2 days of rest per week), make allowances for bad weather (add at least 60 more days due to the twice reduced speed) and received 482 day, 1 year and 4 months.

You will have to apply for a Chinese visa in advance in Moscow, but since a regular tourist visa will simply end the 3-6-month entry corridor until you reach the Chinese border, the visa must be multiple-entry 3-month or annual with a 2-year entry corridor.

  2. Looking at the map. Beijing is 7000 km away from Moscow by road. Considering that it is much easier to walk on roads than through the forest / fields/swamps, we will go this way. Let's also assume that we have money and can stay in hotels/ cafes, and there is no need to carry a tent or other equipment with us. The average speed of a person(healthy) is 5 km/h. We will spend 9-10 hours a day, for example, and the rest will be spent on food and recreation. 45-50 kilometers per day. 150 days, but you can't go that far in a row, so every 3 days we will have a rest, i.e. a third more time. 200 approximately.

  3. 5790 km is the distance in a straight line, which even airplanes do not fly. Therefore, on foot, this distance can be safely multiplied by just one and a half, of which some will be impassable in principle. It will be faster to follow the slope of the railway tracks, but only carefully! In short, my “bet” is 2 years minimum and 10 pairs of crosses)

  4. From Moscow to Beijing 5790 km. If a person goes light, then he can walk about 50 km a day (not loaded) if there is a good road and shoes (without training, average equipment). Loaded in the area of 25-30km. So, let's say you go with a minimum of cargo and on a straight line (off-road). Somewhere every 3-4 days you will definitely need to take a day off to gain strength. We count 30 km per day with every 4th day off. 5790/30*1.25=241.25 days. I think you can safely multiply this time by 1.5 referring to overcoming difficult areas and bypassing obstacles, it will be about 362 days… in a year, if you try, you will get there.
