  1. I believe that there are no prerequisites for this. The volume of knowledge expands in all directions every year, like the universe.

Degradation is possible if we consider only relative intellectuality, i.e. the share of knowledge of one individual in the total amount of knowledge of mankind for a given period. Perhaps the amount of so-called sacrifice for the sake of science has decreased in comparison with previous generations – few people are now ready to lead an ascetic lifestyle, giving themselves completely to their mental activity.

And if we compare absolute values, the average person's knowledge grows from generation to generation. We just sometimes forget that we compare the knowledge of a 60 -, 40 -, and 20-year-old, and conclude that a 60-year-old is smarter… but was he like that in his 20s?

  2. Probably exists…unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are not very smart right now. I'm afraid to fall into this category myself. The only thing that saves you from this is regular work on yourself. Intellectual games, books, sports, nutrition, supplements-vitamin D, fish oil is mandatory and Evalarovsky theanine. ugh, ugh, probably thanks to this, I received a red diploma, and they praise me at work.

  3. Very interesting question…I wish I knew the answer. On the one hand, life is becoming more complex all the time, education systems are improving, access to information is becoming more and more simplified(I am happy to compare the 60 years and the current ones-this is earth and sky),technology is becoming more sophisticated. On the other hand,in this difficult life,a person's socialization and success often depend not so much on knowledge and intelligence, but on completely different qualities-sociability,conformity,assertiveness…Education is also sometimes improved not in the direction of increasing the amount of knowledge, but by adjusting the personality to the necessary standards of behavior and thinking.Access to information is often implemented through games and “funny pictures”…In addition, in our society, “natural selection”for intelligence is completely excluded, even the grossest mistakes in decision-making do not lead to rejection,as in the era of hunters…

That is, there are tendencies to “smarten up” and “stupefy” people. How will it prevail?Or will the result be a kind of dictatorship of a few”smart guys”over a faceless mass of half-cretins?After all, billions of “smart guys” are simply not needed by society-they are unconformed, obstinate, and unmanageable…

  4. Once a person created a wheel without even understanding what he needed it for, and it went to his advantage. In the modern world, people create weapons of mass destruction fully aware of their effects and negative consequences, and they do not stop creating them. Moreover, everyone is happy that the effect of this weapon will be the complete destruction of a particular country, or humanity in general.Someone will say that this is not so, they say that people only protect themselves. When you defend yourself with a bow or a word, it's one thing when you defend yourself with a nuclear stockpile capable of destroying the Earth 1,000 times … here you need to think…and then preferably again. At world forums, many times many educated people gather to discuss global problems – the destruction of flora and fauna, environmental pollution, the destruction of the ozone layer, world hunger – and the result is that everything goes in circles and nothing changes. As it became known recently, the Great Barrier Reef is dying, it has long been known that the Amazon jungle is dying-and these are, after all, light planets. So a very significant question arises :how did unintelligent barbarians and savages manage to live in harmony with nature, and a highly developed and civilized society informed from everywhere allows this to happen? Or is it as they say Woe from Wit?) The words of Omar Khayyam are quite appropriate here :

“The lower a person's soul, the higher they turn up their nose. He stretches his nose where his soul has not grown up.”

  5. I don't see the need to raise this issue, since now everything depends mainly on the person himself, if he has an inquisitive mind and wants to know everything. Modern technologies allow anyone to use a large amount of data on the Internet, almost for free. You can easily view a course of lectures on physics on YouTube, or read questions and answers on this site, for example, in the section physics, space, science. The fact that now young people are not interested in this is not a problem, Remember yourself in 10-20 years what was in your head)) personally, I have motorcycles and girls. And only over time do you begin to understand that all the knowledge of physics and mathematics, which not everyone likes at school and understands why it is needed, helps to understand the structure of the world around you, and in general life becomes more fun. So this question is not relevant in my opinion, remember the school where the teacher said that you are the most difficult class, and so he tells everyone, this does not mean that every year the generation degrades, just with age we become more conservative.

  6. Participants of the March 26 rally are now being degraded in police stations. But we went for a ride on autos. Degradation exists. Diana Shurygina. Ovulyashki. People who blow up firecrackers in the ass.

  7. What is intellectual degradation and how can it be measured? One criterion that comes to mind is that the average person in Russia (and the world, too) reads and writes more today than they did 100 and 50 years ago.

  8. On the issue of the degradation of humanity, and especially in terms of the connection of this process with gadgets and the Internet, only lazy did not speak out. Actually, the situation most reminds me of the uproar that arose in the United States after the publication of the patent for telephone communication authored by Alexander Bell and the beginning of public testing of Bell-Waden transceivers. Here is how the subsequent events were described by the magazine “Technika-Molodezhi”::

The phone won recognition with lightning speed. Five years after Bell's invention, the number of telephones in America has grown to 30 thousand units. But still, it was not without a fierce struggle. Naturally, many entrepreneurs and especially railway companies saw the phone as a dangerous competitor and did everything possible to prevent its distribution. It is characteristic how the clergy met the appearance of the phone. A whole religious movement was organized against the telephone. Baptists ranked the phone as an ” invention of the devil.” Their national convention in Flora passed a resolution instructing all Baptists not only not to use the phone, but also to demand its removal from their homes. However, the Baptists soon realized that this achievement of science can be very profitable to get their hands on. For example, in the town of Kronford in England, a new church has recently opened. Built by a highway, this church is distinguished by its extraordinary equipment. The facade of steel and glass resembles a trendy cafe. Passing by on the road hear the priest's voice amplified by a loudspeaker: “The service starts in 10 minutes, come in!” Instead of wooden pews, the church has swivel chairs and a telephone at each table. In addition, the church is expected to build a swimming pool, a dance hall, a cafe and a cinema. This is how the telephone-the “devil's pipe” – became the “voice of God”in the deft hands of obscurantists.

The live communication phone could not be completely replaced, although there were several dozen originals who tried to conclude marriages with it. The same situation can be observed today: despite all the cries about the complete degradation of social activity, Internet communication is gradually gaining the boundaries of applicability and occupies an ecological niche in society. The decline in the birth rate and a sharp increase in people's caution in intersex relationships are a direct consequence of a very powerful stressful factor, which is employment, life and work in a modern city suffering from the consequences of a decline in the pace of global economic development. This feature was first realized, by the way, again in “corrupted” Europe (specifically in Holland), after analyzing the examples of the United States, South Korea, Singapore and Japan. The answer was to create a very flexible system of division of labor (I deliberately do not use the term “social protection”) in domestic and family relations, with direct state participation. We will feel the benefits of implementing this system in 10 years, but for now we can only be surprised by the spectacle of happy Dutch families with 4-5 kids for one opera singer or doctor of science.

Now about those who cause the greatest condemnation among the adherents of degradation. These are young people 17-21 years old who get into the Internet for every word, do not bother to remember any information and can not build in their head sometimes the simplest cause-and-effect relationships. The picture is real and sad, but these people are unhappy. However, they are a direct consequence not of the proliferation of gadgets that simplify life, but of the absurd universal competition for a place in the sun. Actually, this is the pattern of the appearance of the largest number of such young people in Russia and the United States: the cult of wealth and success at any cost simply does not allow normal, non-competitive communication between parents and children, leaving the latter the role of a “by-product”. Children grow like wild weeds while their parents compete in all sorts of markets, including mating and sexual markets. In Russia, this horror is superimposed on the ancient tradition of family seniority, when the patriarch holds all the reins of power in his iron hands until death. Children in the next 1-2 generations are deprived of the opportunity to continue their parent's affairs (“Small isho, go into the battles of understanding with a snotty nose!”), and independently search for the possibility of realizing their talents (“Choose a school and rank without blessing?! I'll curse the parasite as I please!”), so they grow up to be moneyed, but unhappy incompetents. Children are seen as competitors of their parents, albeit for different reasons, and only sometimes get the skills to independently comprehend all sorts of life situations. The entire reserve of forces is spent on a tough struggle for a place in the social hierarchy. Another option: overprotection of single mothers, for whom the child turns into an object of displacement of unfulfilled hopes and dreams, which inevitably follows a long series of cruel disappointments and adaptation to mutually exclusive demands in the form of apathy. In both cases, the child simply has no one to teach analysis, logic, causal relationships and other scientific nonsense. And we have what we have.

    P. S. Today I asked this question to one of my most distinguished colleagues, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Olga Vladimirovna Egorova. Instead of the expected short monologue for 5-6 minutes, it turned out to be a rather unexpected impromptu interview in the car. Please review and take note

  9. This is an interesting and important question. I don't have data on humanity, but I do have interesting data on the regions of Russia. They degrade. Below is a picture only for the Pskov region. 8 % of all schoolchildren are children with intellectual disabilities (these are not disabled people). At the same time, it is important that not all children with intellectual disabilities are recognized as such in the region even by psychiatric examinations.

Psychiatrists refuse to recognize disabled children who, when attending school, count only up to 20 by the age of 15 and read syllables, explaining their decision by the poor work of teachers and calling such children “simply unscientific”.

That is, children with reduced intelligence are more than 8 %. How much more is unknown, as this type of data is not included in the mandatory statistical observation. But let's say it's 10 % today (that's three people in each class). How many of them will there be in 10-15-20 years? The reasons for the deviations are also not clear, as these are children from different social environments, many of them have intellectually developed parents.

If there are specialists here onthequestion who are interested in this topic, please contact me and we will deal with it together. Since this data is not only not advertised, but also hidden, and the problem is growing. It's growing rapidly. In 2016, the Pskov experience of socialization of people with mental disabilities was presented to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population and was highly appreciated.

  10. Of course, but not within the framework of humanity as a whole, but within certain strata, social groups. The simplest example. 30 years ago, students had a much higher intellectual level, there were few places, the selection was the most severe, now there are not many places, and the selection is very harsh, but the institute of paid education appeared, and those students who came to the university for selection were added to those who passed on a commercial basis. As a result, the overall level dropped slightly. In general, humanity is certainly getting smarter.
