This question cannot be answered. Intelligence is not an incidental feature that can be separated from the concept of “man” and considered “man in himself.” Intelligence is what makes a person human. Without reason, your question would be impossible with all the concepts included in it: “man”, “gift”, “curse”, “reason” itself. Without reason, man would be an animal, incapable of speech, abstract thinking, and reflection, unable to ask any questions, and ultimately simply not human.
