  1. In fact, it is possible both independently and with a therapist. Depends on the severity, of course.

The main thing in such a disorder is to find a way to cope with impulses like “gorging”, and with subsequent ones, like “throwing up”. Of course, motivation is important – you can start with this, make a list of benefits-highs and harms-losses from such a situation. It is also important to work with the image of yourself (see the girl's answer above, about “I'm not a rag” and further), and with attention control – perhaps this is the most important thing, to be distracted from food, so that it does not occupy a lot of thoughts.

But these are general suggestions, of course, in individual work everything is more accurate.

  2. Bulimia is a type of addictive behavior that started to form from birth. Usually, the dependency is already formed by the age of 4 (this applies to any dependencies). For the manifestation of addiction (bilimia nervosa), a push, increased uncertainty, and anxiety are necessary. And then the body triggers the mechanism of addiction to relieve anxiety (belimia, anorexia, overeating, alcoholism, drug addiction, learning addiction, risk appetite, etc.).

Accordingly, parents try to remove the symptoms of addiction by increasing control. But one addiction then turns into another addiction, so controlling (and self-monitoring) behavior doesn't work in the fight against addiction. Accordingly, diets, too, are the treatment of leprosy with green paint (the effect is for a couple of days). Because this does not change the cause in any way. The reason is childhood injuries, which formed certain behavioral stereotypes. Dependent behavior depends on behavioral patterns, which in turn depend on childhood injuries. A bulimic patient cannot live with their stress, and bouts of bulimia temporarily relieve this tension. Therefore, bulimia saves the client from more intense stress, which is why the client's body cannot refuse it. Neither willpower nor dieting can help you recover, in principle. Here you need to work on changing the client's values.

Working with this disease is quite difficult and can only be done by a psychologist or psychotherapist who has experience in treating bulimia.

  3. First of all, understand that treatment without a doctor is impossible, take it for granted and get into this whole idea.

This is not possible, because no one other than doctors has the proper qualifications to determine the tactics of action in your particular case. Because to understand how to deal with each specific patient, you must first study for a long time, then get practical experience, then examine the individual comprehensively and only when you have a lot of knowledge behind you, and you have a medical history before your eyes, you can give advice.

Well, the second stage – go look for a therapist.

  4. Bulimia is one of the most insidious eating disorders. Get cured? You probably understand perfectly well that bulimia is a condition, unless of course you suffer from it from birth… Is it possible to treat the condition? If there are no organic lesions, then the conditions are not treated with medication, they are corrected with the help of psychotherapy and analysis, until the stage of stable remission. In my practice, I have extensive, positive experience working with this disorder.

  5. I had bulimia for about three years. So, I want to write that this can be done without anyone's help. You just need to force yourself to eat right, convince yourself that you are not a rag and realize what the consequences will be if you continue. Look at your throat. Horrified? Every time you feel like getting drunk, think about your throat. I have a very weak sense of will, but nevertheless I did it, despite the fact that I provoked vomiting almost daily.

  6. Bulimia is a very specific definition of obsessive-compulsive disorder, which includes three mandatory points: attacks of insatiable gluttony, accompanied by the absorption of huge amounts of food, the inability to control this, and self-flagellation about it. If any of this is not present, then you do not have bulimia or just an erased form. Without doctors, you will not be cured, only make yourself worse.

  7. An eating disorder like bulimia without the help of at least a nutritionist is unlikely to respond to treatment. Start by looking for a therapist who specializes in eating disorders and may also help you with a dietitian or other medical professional (they usually have specialists they know) to help the three of you (including yourself) deal with your problem.
