  1. Auctions very often do not sell all the items on display, this is completely normal. This can happen for various reasons : an inflated price, unconvincing provenance (the history of ownership of a work of art, its origin), experts ' doubts about authenticity, poor preservation, etc.

    If an art object remains unsold, it is returned to the owner, who can try to put it up for auction another time.
