  1. The prototype of a modern postcard appeared at the end of the XIX century, and it was executed in the lithography technique. It's an etching on stone. A negative drawing was created on stone and printed on paper. At the beginning of the XX century, a phototype and a photo appeared. Therefore, they already printed everything that could be photographed and tinted on the card. It was possible to reproduce any picture in any technique and material, if that's what you had in mind. In other words, it was possible to draw an image with watercolors, oils, colored pencils, photograph and reproduce it.
