Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin was a recognized landscape painter. All his paintings are mainly related to the image of nature: forest, birch, oak, spruce. His contemporaries called him “the forest hero-artist”, “the king of the forest”. There are rumors that Shishkin did not know how to draw animals and people, but this is not true. For a time, he studied in Zurich with the famous Swiss animal artist Rudolf Kohler. Most likely, such areas as portraitism (depicting people) and animalism (depicting animals) attracted him less, and he did not improve in them, giving an opportunity to depict animals and people to fellow artists.
The famous painting “Morning in the Pine Forest” was co-authored with Konstantin Savitsky, who painted the bears, although according to Shishkin's sketch. Savitsky's animals turned out very well. Savitsky also drew several human figures for the painting “Rain in the Oak Forest”.
The famous landscape “View in the vicinity of Dusseldorf”, painted during his stay in Europe, brought Shishkin the title of academician. A large collection of Shishkin's paintings can now be seen in the Tretyakov Gallery.
The most famous painting by Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin is, of course, “Morning in the Pine Forest”. But also known are such paintings as “Rye”, “Winter”, “Ship Grove”, ” In the wild North…”
