  1. Epigraph:

    “Fill every moment with meaning

Hours and days of elusive running, —

Then you will accept the whole world as your domain

Then, my son, you will be a Man!”

    Rudyard Kipling

A very interesting question: layered, like Grandma's pie.

It has two questions and several aspects of interpretation.

The first is to live one day at a time. Let's see what this means.

And the second is a request to give an assessment: is it worth living one day at all?

I have prepared a video response on the Zen channel especially for you. Take an interesting and more detailed look here.

Now let's understand some of the meanings of the first question. I have identified two possible interpretations of the aphorism “live one day”.

Both the positive value of this expression and the negative value.

In the first sense: “to live in one day” means-to live right “here and now”, to live in the moment, to take everything from the current situation, to the maximum.

Live now to avoid the delayed life effect, when a person seems to be writing a draft, but will really live later.

We can see the clearest example of the second meaning in the history of the European aristocracy. King Louis XV of France elevated the phrase “After us at least the flood”to the rank of the motto of the aristocracy of the XVIII century. The negative meaning of this divination is associated with the assumption that if you “live one day”, you do not think about tomorrow, and when this tomorrow comes, you will not have any preparations, developments for successful functioning. All the resources were spent in that “one day”.

That is, like the dragonfly from the fable about “The Dragonfly and the Ant”, which ” sang red summer (lived the most intense, bright life) did not have time to look back, winter rolls in your eyes (“tomorrow” has come, and resources are spent / not prepared).”

It means: circumstances can change, and if you didn't prepare for them in advance, or plan for them, then you didn't get anything.

    So, let's summarize.

This phrase can be understood in two ways.

On the one hand: “be in the moment”, strive to bring everything in this day to its logical conclusion.

On the other hand: if you think only about today, you may lose the opportunity for a better solution in tomorrow's day.

Decide for yourself what meaning is closer to you.

I think that this is the optimal “golden mean“, when you try to achieve everything from today to the maximum, but you should not forget about tomorrow either.

Well, the second part of the question: is it worth it? Is it worth living the most fulfilling life right now?

Here, everyone answers for themselves. This is more about the internal decision “how to live”, “what to live for”.

From my point of view, and for me personally: yes, it is worth it.

And when else if not now?

Is it worth thinking about tomorrow now and planning?

I also think that this is everyone's choice.

For me: yes, definitely worth it.

Because we wouldn't have the life we can afford right now: the Internet, the computer, some of the benefits of civilization, if previous generations hadn't thought about tomorrow.

Therefore, in my understanding: “live one day” – to live a bright and productive life now, with thoughts about the future.

  2. In general, in my understanding, “to live one day” is not to care about the future.

I prefer the expression “live in the moment” (a synonym for “here and now”). Although, I know from experience, many people also perceive it as a suggestion not to worry about the future.

I believe that you need to take care of the future and plan your life.
And just one of the ways of this care is to fill every day of your life with personal meaning, impressions, and experience. After all, every step we take today contributes to our tomorrow.

    This is one time.
Two-step by step, moment by moment-is the content of our lives.
    We live now, not tomorrow.
Because every tomorrow inevitably becomes now.

And the more meaningfully we act, the more likely it is that both today and tomorrow will not disappoint us)

  3. The question mentions a stable Latin expression -Carpe diem – “live in the present”, “seize the moment” or “live for a day” . This means that you should not postpone your life for later, live now and live every day with pleasure. It is not a question of not putting off the fun until later, but of living life to the fullest, without placing grandiose hopes in an unknown and unstable future. There is a gap between “don't put off having fun” and “live with pleasure”!

This approach to life has been relevant at all times. The wise and not only of this world, philosophers, poets, novelists, even before our era recognized the fact that life is only now, in the moment, in this day, because it is impossible to be happy tomorrow!

As we speak, envious time is running out:лов seize the moment, trust the future as little as possible. © © Horace

Everyone's life is busy with tomorrow. People do not “live, but” only intend to live. © Seneca

Don't worry about the future and the past,
Know the price of today's happiness
    .© © Omar Khayyam

Happiness has no tomorrow; it has no yesterday; it does not remember the past, it does not think about the future; it has the present — and that is not a day, but a moment. © I. S. Turgenev

Is it worth “seizing the moment”? – Definitely worth it! This is life itself!

  4. All “winged” expressions are usually cut off and therefore incomprehensible)) it should be updated and expanded:

“live one day: don't put off until tomorrow what can be done today; remember-tomorrow you can die; you can fix everything today and tomorrow, but not yesterday; the best day is today; don't blame yourself for yesterday, live today, don't be afraid tomorrow; get ready to die, but this rye; the day feeds the year; the spoon goes to dinner; everything passes and this day will pass; there will be a day and there will be food; day after day –

Well, now it seems to be clearer))

  5. This is the trend of the modern era, to live in one day. To me, here and now, all at once! This is the psychology of a spoiled son and a drug addict. So that here and now and by all means! And tomorrow, though the grass does not grow! A typical and most famous representative of this kind of people today is Hunter Biden. In the past, the most prominent representatives of this psychological type were Vasily Stalin, Leonid Khrushchev and Galina Brezhneva. And tellingly, this is usually inherent in the offspring of those who themselves accidentally swam out of the “mud to the princes”. Descendants of aristocratic families, if properly brought up, do not suffer from this

  6. So many people actually live like this!!! Why? Yes, because we do not know what awaits us tomorrow!!! Nobody! Never! Life is fragile… Instantaneous… You make plans, dream, and think about the future… And that's it… Opppp… A brick will fall on your head… And the modet will not fall… Therefore, every reasonable person has this reserve for tomorrow…

  7. To live in one day is to take everything from life, here and now.

I think it's worth it. We don't know when our end will come, and there is so much unknown in the world!

Life in “one day” is an effective pastime. From the category of: I have a dream come true, and I will start making every effort to fulfill it right now. Isn't that the kind of person we all want to be?

  8. Living one day is a concept that everyone interprets in their own way.

To look at the issue from several angles, you can slightly classify people(adherents of this lifestyle)

    First type:

A person who is indifferent to life and is not able to look for the deep roots of many of his problems.

Due to the fact that he is not able to deal with difficulties, it is likely that he will refer to himself as a person who lives alone during the day. “I won't be learning anything today. We live in one day.”

The second type is people who go on many adventures, just because they are inspired by the life of one day. They chase emotions and sensations. But this also has its drawbacks, since a person can overdo it or do stupid things, and then have problems because of what they did earlier.

Specifically, my opinion on this issue is as follows::

Life in one day is a great way to diversify and decorate your leisure time, but of course, you should not give yourself one hundred percent to this and you always need to find time to realize your real goals and plans for the future. Otherwise, at one point you can play enough and be left with nothing but memories.
