What hinders the emergence of game studies and media studies in Russia?
In the world, there is such a scientific discipline as media theory/medialogy, which usually includes game studies / video game science. Russian Wikipedia says that " video game research "is included in" media studies " (which sounds like our adaptation of media theory and medialogy), but in practice there is no such scientific discipline. In 2018, Irina Annenkova, an associate professor at the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University, suggested adapting the areas of science included in medialogy in the Russian manner (with the addition of "-conducting") and combining them into one large discipline called "media studies", which would mean the emergence of our own school of medialogy. To date, the development of this idea in Russia is not observed. So what hinders or hinders the emergence and development of game science in the country?P.S. I don't rule out the fact that at least MSU and St. Petersburg State University study "game studies". But I wonder why it is not unified and widespread, as in other countries. I became interested in preparing material for a report on media philosophy and game studies.
it also hinders the emergence of “British scientists” in Russian science-a different model of research funding.
probably, in Russia, there is still no group of people (and companies) who are willing to pay for research in this area. there are no “beneficiaries” from such activities.
