According to modern ethological research, it is known that not only people can laugh. Scientists have found that laughter is also inherent in some animals – for example, monkeys, dogs and rats.
Both humans and animals smile when they want to show their friendliness. Animals laugh when they jokingly attack each other. Great apes when tickled make sounds that are quite similar to our laughter.
Smiles and laughter are characteristic of animals that can cause serious injuries to each other during fights. As a rule, they inhibit aggression, serve as a means of pacification. In mock attack games, laughter signals that this is a game, that the attacker will not really bite. At the same time, it is very important that the signal is clear – it is not for nothing that people usually easily distinguish a sincere smile from a threatening grin.
However, we must still remember that animals have their own thinking, which is arranged differently and is not identical to the human mind.Only people can recognize and understand all the subtleties of jokes and humor and respond to them with laughter.
