There are a lot of similar questions on Q, and I've already answered some of them.
I'll try to answer again without repeating myself.
But first, I will point out that I am an atheist and a person who does not believe in God, the devil, Baba Yaga, elves, brownies… they differ from each other.
The latter does not need God, because in our time people are trying to find answers to how to live in peace, how to live with each other, how to live with increased or new technologies, how to preserve the ecology of the planet and how, finally, to survive in our world, where regularity dances with randomness the eternal dance of being… without the primitive religious beliefs of past generations.
People are getting deeper and deeper into the knowledge of their body, physiology, brain and psychology and understand the inextricable connection of the material entity with the mind and consciousness.
Naive and artificial separation of the body and soul is replaced by their close unity, which requires a person, as philosophers say, a new paradigm (a new holistic view of the world) of human nature, his consciousness and life.
And like an early religious paradigm, or more generally: outdated concepts and judgments, through their close connection with culture, history, and language… they have tried to preserve themselves, but they will not stop human thought from exploring the world and striving for new knowledge. Here there is something of life itself, in which nothing is eternal and everything dies, but its sprouts and generations in the new birth are both freed from the obsolete, but also contain a part of the forever gone.
According to statistics, over the past century and a half or two, the number of non-religious people has already grown to 30-35% of the world's population. This has led to a prolonged crisis of almost all religions.
And, practically, none of the religions is going to so easily reduce their age-old influence on the consciousness of people. In a sense: ideas and representations are indirectly subject to the law of evolution of living forms, and they are really fighting for their”survival”. Maybe this connection is quite natural. And although this is only an assumption, I am an atheist because I am trying to accelerate the death of obsolete forms of human ideas and preserve the freedom to learn new things, which sometimes do not fit into the old concepts and ideas at all… of a religious nature.
That is, an atheist is not just a non-religious person, but a person who actively denies any concepts of God or the supernatural in the first place, when a religious worldview tries to introduce itself or even mimic in the search for new knowledge about the world and about man.
In the second place, but this is no longer typical for all atheists, we should try to identify the rational grain in outdated concepts and preserve it in the modern approach of cognition.
I deny faith in God, but I do not deny the centuries-old experience of rational search for humanity, which, however, is often contradictory and … of little use. The latter leads me to the philosophy of pragmatism, which was developed at the end of the last century and is successfully developing today. But the snobbish idea of profit as a utilitarian concept does not give me such an opportunity…
But these are my personal details. In general , I do not accept the impudence of religious judgments in modern matters of life. And the more this insolence of religious faith is stronger and more widespread , the stronger my atheism.
But in real life, I'm quite tolerant of religions. Many of my family and friends are believers. But they rarely talk about it, and their Faith is publicly shown only on the relevant religious holidays and cults. Therefore, I believe that real religious faith is deeply personal and does not need either its publicity or obsession with others (otherwise the Faith is no longer personal). That's why my atheism is commonplace… fast asleep. Although his sleep is a little light.
Another thing is the Internet, which today is most often a “battlefield” not only between different worldviews, but also other aspects of human relations.
I think that many people are trying to understand for themselves how this world works, what it consists of, how it all appeared, was born, and so on. Coming to the conclusion that one should believe only what can be scientifically proved, a person stops believing in everything that cannot be proved.
There are questions that cannot be answered with evidence.
Tell me – have you ever met fools in your life?
Again, who assigns the title of fool so that it is indisputable to others?
People create a system of knowledge and commissions that assign titles to a trained person. This one is an ACADEMICIAN, and this one is only a candidate, and that one is a professor…
There are cohorts of writers, poets, and prose writers… and others.
Here, it turns out, someone, once, came up with the title of atheist.
What does an atheist mean and how honorable or shameful is it to be one?
If you live in a Muslim country, it will be difficult for you to be a non-Muslim.
Are there any atheist countries in the world where atheists would be happy? I do not know any purely atheist countries, and therefore it is not an honor to be an atheist anywhere, but many countries do not seek to put them in prison either.
An atheist is neither this nor that!
Someone can say about an atheist that he is a fool, and someone can praise him. It all depends on the place and time.
Now is a favorable time for atheists in many places. No one persecutes them, few people condemn them.
From here-Yes, do not let them live for themselves!
Because I have never met or observed a single god. Because in the entire history of mankind, no objective evidence of the existence of a particular god has been found. Therefore, there is no compelling reason to believe in Zeus or Jesus, Mithras or Allah, except when you really want to pass off your wishful thinking. But I can't fool myself even if I want to. That's why I'm an atheist, i.e. I don't believe in God. However, I do not claim that it definitely does not exist, just as I do not claim that, for example, fairies definitely do not exist. Who knows)
In short: because I don't see any convincing evidence of the existence of God.
I was born into an atheist family and as a child God was just a fairy-tale or mythical character for me. But at the age of 10, I came to believe, it was in the wake of the religious revival that began after 1988. Christian ideas seemed right and beautiful to me, many smart people declared their religiosity – all this influenced me. This charge was enough for two years – at 12.5 years old, I just said to myself: “What am I doing here? There is no God.” Since then, for almost 30 years, I remain with this opinion.
I respect the religious beliefs of people, recognize the great role of Christianity in the development of culture, and militant atheism is just as unpleasant to me as militant religiosity.
And why are so many deeply religious people ? Each person has a choice in what and in whom to believe, most people go with faith in life because faith is imposed on them by their relatives and environment, society always rules, and people who do not believe them also do this stereotype is also imposed, not many people from multi-billion humanity analyze information and find real facts in order to accept or not accept this or that faith
The majority of atheists are, in fact. Enter a mandatory church tax in the country, and you will immediately see that 99% of the population are atheists. )))
And why? This is a difficult question. All people are actually born atheists. But they develop and are formed in society. In which there is a religion (often not one) and a church (also often not one). Of course, they, being a part of society, affect the development of a person. There is also a culture that often contains various religious imprints. In different societies, attitudes to religion vary, and now in Russia, the authorities diligently support both the church and religious beliefs in the population, this also plays a role.
And some people succumb to this influence, and some do not. It depends both on the environment and on the character of the person himself.
But in real, real life, the vast majority of people who consider themselves believers behave like the most rabid atheists, oddly enough, and sometimes even blasphemously. For example, the preachers available here on Kew. Based on their belief, God is omniscient and omnipotent, and without his will, not a hair of a person's head will fall. If he created someone an atheist, then it is his will, and therefore religious preaching is sin and blasphemy: a person puts himself above the God in whom he believes. And it goes against his will: God created someone an atheist, and the preacher goes against God's will. This is a sin, and they take this sin to their credit. )))) It's always been fun for me to watch. The explanation here is the simplest: the church pushes the sermon, which the more believers, the more money. And the interest here is the most mundane, monetary. And they don't think about God at all at this moment.
And even in simpler situations, the most religious people behave like atheists and materialists: after breaking their arm, they go to the doctor, and not to the temple to pray….
First, not some. There are many more atheists in the world than, for example, creationists (a synonym for believers). Secondly, I used to be a believer, and even went to monasteries and pilgrimage trips. But then I left religion, so I realized what cognitive processes underlie “faith”. After studying neuroscience, I understood why people believe, and how religion gives them answers to the most exciting questions. All these answers, if you try hard, can be found without religion. So it is for me personally. How you do it is your business. Materialism or other substrates, I think, have nothing to do with it. The fact is that the human brain, as it would be easier to say, already from birth has certain innate cognitive models, ranging from imprinting in children, and ending with more complex mechanisms in adults. These models are universal, well-studied, and do not require a lot of calories for their implementation, unlike some complex mental activity. Therefore, ready-made models of worldview, with an emphasis on other cognitive features, our brain perceives easily and sincerely. Religion, moreover, quickly gives a person answers to questions that science cannot answer. And the very foundation of any religion is, so to speak, the exploitation of our innate hierarchical patterns of behavior. Therefore, knowing these models, we can assume what common features all religions will have. For example, the presence of one dominant (s) who can “punish” for their behavior, the presence of norms and rules governing the worship of this dominant, and so on. Every religion has it all. In my opinion, this can't be a coincidence, at least not by chance.
Undecided … Not found… No need… As the poet said: You will be satisfied with yourself and your wife, with your constitution and your life… THEISM-gratitude for “everything that was and was to blame” .
Because I think it's important not only to use words, but also to understand their meaning. This is the opposite of religious behavior, when the dogmas of the teaching are perceived so uncritically that it is often necessary to learn the texts by heart.
“Someone else's soul – darkness” – says the well-known truism. Are you always very open with society about your deepest beliefs and feelings?
I don't believe, in conventional parlance, in a theological god. Nevertheless, I believe that the world is created by the mind. This means that this mind has a source.
How to name this source-there is no difference. The main thing is to understand the meaning. Am I an atheist? What god doesn't an atheist believe in?
Why some people are not materialists, believers, or atheists, and yet have a reasonable worldview, if not a true one, is the question.
Atheism is not nihilism. Then what is it? Rejection of reason in nature or rejection of a personal Christian god? If the mind is also a deity for an atheist, then the Wikipedia definition of atheism is correct.
Goethe once wisely remarked, ” The only true atheism is despair.”
It would be much more interesting to ask the question: “Why are some scientists atheists?”
“Anyone who is seriously engaged in science, comes to the realization that in the laws of nature manifests a Spirit that is much higher than human. A spirit in the face of which, with our limited strength, we must feel our own weakness. In this sense, scientific research leads to a special kind of religious feeling, which really differs in many ways from more naive religiosity.” ( Albert Einstein)
Atheism is an energy-saving religion that does not require any mental or physical effort.
Atheism, like anti-Christianity, is several centuries old, and huge efforts, money, and other resources are being invested in its implementation. With the increasing density of information flow, business moves faster and faster.
With the development of technology, life becomes easier and easier, without requiring a person to focus on survival as much as possible. Why, rolled a beer and in the sofa, what God, why?
The Creator created man, gave him reason, so that he could know, identify himself, his “I”, so that he could know his Creator and the meaning of his life, his mission in this world. His mind starts asking questions : Who am I? What am I doing here? What am I here for? what is the meaning of life? He looks at the earth, looks at the sky, the sun, the stars, and says:”Where does all this come from? “Who created all this, who created me ? Why did you create it? He starts looking for answers to these questions. He begins to think….
The Creator also gave man free will ,so that he could voluntarily come to his Creator using the mind given to him, reflecting with this mind: about himself, about all the creatures around him, about the universe. because he has free will, a choice : he can choose a light path or a dark one, good or evil, God or the devil. There is no compulsion to enter religion ,as stated in the Qur'an: “There is no compulsion to enter religion. The straight path has already been clearly distinguished from error.” Qur'an, 2-Surah al-Baqarah, 256 verses. So, a person thinking, using his mind should voluntarily come to Allah, Who created the universe and all living beings in it, including man.
The reasons for atheism are mainly the search for and not finding the meaning of life, the truth about God .Or a person comes to some false religion, but because of the contradictions of common sense in the scriptures of this chosen religion, he does not find the truth ,does not find the satisfaction of his soul, and he becomes an atheist .
Here's another reason for atheism: Neither the prophets, nor the saints, nor the priests, nor the sages guide us to the right path, but only the Supreme Creator. If an atheist has a tendency to good, to moral actions, then the Most High Creator will probably direct this person to the right path, otherwise if an atheist has a tendency to evil, to immoral words and actions, then he may remain an atheist forever and die an atheist, and this is the greatest grief and misfortune for a person.
Another reason for atheism is human pride. A person wants freedom, does not want to obey anyone. He considers himself the smartest, the best, he considers himself the center of the universe. His pride turns off his mind and he begins to deny the truth… the truth about God, the truth about resurrection after death, after the end of the world, the truth about the Day of Judgment , the truth that there is a heaven for reward, there is a hell for punishment. But surely, surely, the time of his death will come. After death, any unbeliever, any atheist is completely, 100% convinced that there is a Creator who created himself, his life, the universe, there is a judgment day, there is a heaven for reward, there is a hell for punishment, there is eternal life. The Qur'an tells us about non-believers and atheists in the following verses: “When death approaches one of them, he says:: “My God! Bring me back.” Qur'an, 23-Surah Al-Muminun, 99 ayat.
“Perhaps I will do good deeds that I have rejected.” But no! These are just the words he says. There will be a barrier behind them until the Day they are resurrected.” Qur'an, 23-Surah Al-Muminun, 100-ayat. This verse says that there will no longer be a chance, a return to the worldly life, to correct your mistakes, your false beliefs and wash away your sins. Therefore, in this life we must know our Creator, believe in Him and live according to His guidance given to humanity-this is the meaning of life for every person, humanity.
The Greek word “atheos” — atheist-has long been used in everyday life. “A” stands for “without” and “theos” stands for “God”. Literally, an atheist means ” without God.” In ancient Greece, the word denoted a person who refuses the Gods by denying their existence. And also, denying the presence of spirit and spirituality in a person.
I have never met a single atheist in my life, because this very concept implies an indifferent attitude towards believers. However, as a rule, atheists call themselves God-fighters, or otherwise, active, and even aggressive people who enter into polemics with believers, trying to challenge their beliefs.
As for the specific question, even theoretically I can't imagine an atheist, because I don't know a single person who has not encountered something mystical and inexplicable in his life that could shake his belief in the absence of something otherworldly… The fact that we are not able to explain even at the current level of scientific discoveries and achievements, but can only believe.
Most people become atheists due to the “activity” and joy of believers.) A person with the label of an atheist attached to him, sooner or later, or even from time to time, thinks about the “hidden” side of life. But seeing the stubborn and fanatical zeal with which the believers themselves try to impose their true truth and “save the lost”, and the lost ones in this case are not only atheists, but anyone who thinks at least somehow, but otherwise than “chosen by Divine guidance”. Seeing this, any sane person understands that something is wrong here. This repels him, and sometimes sets him up for opposition. In the end, both are wrong. And the Truth, as always, is somewhere nearby )
Because in my life I have not met any convincing evidence of the existence of Bha, and I am not used to taking people who often talk nonsense at their word.
Everything is much simpler. All, in general, all people are atheists. Because there are no ways to prove the existence of “believers”))
Believers, strictly according to their own definition, should move mountains with minimal faith, but this is not the case. Moreover, there is no scientific definition of believers. Therefore, believers do not exist, they only pretend.
And by the way, my idea perfectly explains why there are so many different religions – everyone just pretends to be as comfortable as they are, and there are no” true believers ” either.
I grew up in a moderately religious family. my parents didn't go to church or force me to wear modest clothes, or forbid me to listen to rock music or do goth makeup)
Yes, there were icons in the house. and my mother talked about God. but since I was very interested in ancient and Egyptian mythology as a child, I perceived the Gospel as a myth, and I perceived the Christian God as Zeus or Jupiter from ancient mythology. I just couldn't wrap my head around the fact that there was someone in the sky who was watching all of us. how does he manage everything? and since he's so omnipotent, why didn't he defeat all evil? These are the questions I had as a child. Unfortunately, I didn't find any questions on this…
at the same time, I treat believers calmly. I even like to walk around St. Petersburg and look at the temples-both outside and inside. but only for aesthetic pleasure)
and I very much condemn the fact that at the beginning of the USSR's existence, a course of rigid atheism was taken with the destruction of churches and clergy. everyone has the right to believe what they want, and therefore it is unacceptable to impose a personal religious position.
I'm an atheist! My article, from the part with quotes and sayings by Jacques Fresco: “About God and Religion”: vkТЧКcom/wall217463653_1681 “TCHK I recommend you to read it!
For Heaven and Hell: Is there a Heaven or a Hell? “No,” I said. Why? — Because everything depends on the place of birth of a person, as well as on what kind of person will be born. This is stupid. Because if, for example: a person is born where they pray to lava and worship a volcano and don't know anything else and can't know — he will go to Hell? And if a person is born disabled, for example, blind and deaf or autistic, it turns out that in “this” life — “unlucky”, so also in “the next” – he will suffer for nothing-God is such a sadist or a blockhead, or what other option is there? — The option for me is: No! Because there is no God, because people invented him! No one can immediately be born a believer or an atheist, a person cannot be born with these views, just as afterward he himself without outside interference-to have them and follow them, at least because he will not even know about them. If a person is born where everyone prays to lava and worships a volcano — he will be the same until he learns something new, unless of course he is taught not to believe and ignore everything that others say. Answer to the question: “If you did not know the Law of God, but lived according to your conscience, will God justify you?”, – A person's conscience is formed based on the environment where he was born, as well as on the impact of other people on him. For some, “according to conscience” is to kill people, and for others-to give everything that is-to other people. God, Heaven, and Hell are all contrary to science. The Bible says that God created man when, based on scientific research, this is evolution, and that we were still mushrooms for a very long time. The Bible also says that God created the world in 6-7 days, when based on research-only the Earth “appeared” 4.54 billion years ago… I believe only in what can be proved, and in what does not contradict what has already been proved.
There are a lot of similar questions on Q, and I've already answered some of them.

Most people become atheists due to the “activity” and joy of believers.)
A person with the label of an atheist attached to him, sooner or later, or even from time to time, thinks about the “hidden” side of life.

I recommend you to read it!
For Heaven and Hell:
Is there a Heaven or a Hell?
Answer to the question: “If you did not know the Law of God, but lived according to your conscience, will God justify you?”,
– A person's conscience is formed based on the environment where he was born, as well as on the impact of other people on him. For some, “according to conscience” is to kill people, and for others-to give everything that is-to other people.
God, Heaven, and Hell are all contrary to science.
The Bible says that God created man when, based on scientific research, this is evolution, and that we were still mushrooms for a very long time.
The Bible also says that God created the world in 6-7 days, when based on research-only the Earth “appeared” 4.54 billion years ago…
I believe only in what can be proved, and in what does not contradict what has already been proved.
