  1. Yes, there is a great book by Alexander Markov “The Birth of Complexity”.

A book about how life develops allows you to understand why it is the way it is.Together with the sequel “Human Evolution” it really helped me understand many aspects of life.

It was unexpected and instructive to learn how much more cooperation there is in nature than competition, why chimeras did not become multicellular, how they appeared many times in general, why they were not fixed for a long time, and by what mechanisms these problems were eventually overcome.

A huge number of the most important facts and mechanisms of life are described. Despite this, it is written in a lively and understandable language and reads like a detective story, where incomprehensible terms can be ignored.

Moreover, these books are also directly related to social issues. The fact is that the mechanisms of development are the same for any code – genetic, cultural, or software: these are heredity, variability, and selection.

Although this is not explicitly stated in the book, the need for cultural community and cooperation between people is completely traceable, as are the mechanisms that ensure and destroy it.

But on the example of biological evolution, we see these mechanisms with an open mind, from the outside, confirmed by direct experiments.

In general, from a philosophical point of view, it is also a huge amount of information for reflection.

  2. “Martin Eden” by Jack London, M. Gorky “At the bottom”. From foreign literature (I prefer English-language authors) , probably S. Maugham “Theater”, E. Hemingway is an American writer, war correspondent, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954, but his books are still vividly read, such as” Farewell to Arms”,”The Old Man and the Sea”.

  3. How can you understand life, what is it all about?)

To get a little closer to the awareness of this very life-of course, you can. To understand it completely – as it seems to me, still no. None of us is the creator of the universe or the compiler of algorithms for universal order/chaos/evolution (please underline what you need).

The things that changed me and my outlook on the world are as follows::
Montaigne's “Experiments”. Montaigne is an excellent author and one of the main essayists. It is necessary to read it, such confidence of style, humanity and at the same time depth of assessments of what is happening almost nowhere else to be found.

Un Tzu “The Art of War”C is one of the main Chinese treatises. Chinese wisdom is a very specific thing, but, nevertheless, very important (in my subjective opinion). The treatise outlines the main strategies, ways of interacting with subordinates, and many other things that are still important today.

quiet john donne,There is something about them that is never forgotten and leaves a deep, inexplicable imprint-along with the poems of Walt Whitman(especially the notorious “Grass Leaves”).

    And finally, two fiction books:
“Ulysses by James Joyce. I sincerely believe that this is one of the main books that can endlessly produce new meanings. I read it almost every year and find something new every time. It is incredibly clear about everything and nothing at the same time. This is my favorite maze where you learn to find Ariadne's thread on your own.

“Skin” Malaparte I. It's as terrifying a novel as you can get: it's phantasmagoric and seemingly impossible, but it's also almost autobiographical. It is terrible to read it, but a detailed description of the events of World War II by a fascist is quite an important thing for understanding how cruelty works and how frenzy appears in people.

  4. Probably, literature in principle can not help us in understanding life. At best, I see writers as intelligent and knowledgeable people who act as my interlocutors. They give me material that is their idea of life. And this idea, which may look, among other things, like their understanding of life, cannot automatically pass to me – the reader. I think that only my life experience, repeatedly and for a long time meaningful, can lead me to an understanding of life. This understanding of life is nothing but wisdom. It is extremely difficult to come to it and only a few people manage to do it.

  5. From the field of journalism, Malthus ' work “Experience on the Law of Overpopulation”opened my eyes to a lot of things. Then, in the 19th century, he was not understood, and his work was considered the height of cynicism. But after almost two centuries, you see, the whole situation in the world. People have always tried to reduce the population at the expense of the poor: even the cult of virginity was invented for the poor to reduce sexual relations among them; the worst food, living conditions-everything for their extinction. Malthus predicted that as the population grew, food would be synthesized, and wrote many terrible things. I'm not saying I agree with the author, but this book has answered many questions. Yes, it is cynical, but my experience of reading books shows me that the most cynical books are the most truthful.

And from the fiction “Fight Club”. The book is not about a split personality, as many people think. Written with a hint of prophecy in the ' 90s, it's about the approaching era of rampant consumption, when we'll all be hooked by advertising on such a needle of consumerism that we'll be ready to buy our own liposuction-derived fat in bars of soap. Cynical? Yes, but true again.

  6. You will laugh, but such a book for me was “The Eternal Call” by Anatoly Ivanov. It would seem an ordinary Soviet book, but then, with a lack of information, it suggested some thoughts. Upon careful reading, I saw that all the enemies accurately carry out the stupid decisions of the party, and the positive characters sabotage them. During the years of the great Terror, it is not former White Guards who are arrested, but quite Soviet citizens. The book explicitly says that newspapers lie. After all, the author was talented and could not constantly lie, as some people do. The same elements of truth can be found in his novel Povitel

  7. They asked , and I answer them.

It's very fun to read some of people's answers, where they cite a “universal book” that will help you figure it out. There is no such book.

I liked the “Little Prince” example, but it's still not the same. People can only tell you the book that hooked them and helped them understand some aspect, but no more.

It is impossible to understand life as a rule. There is nothing that can make you think that something in life is important (except, of course, public opinion, and even then, not a fact).

The bottom line is that each book will probably bring something new to your life that you haven't noticed before. After reading a couple of books on the psychology of gestures , you will start to follow people's gestures, and you will no longer understand: “- How can I not notice this before?”. After reading a few books on physics (and even about not quite elementary gravity), watching movies, you will begin to notice that objects in movies often violate the laws of gravity (in terms of the pursuit of spectacular shots and editing) .
That is, each book is a small piece that will gradually fill your life with new details.

Well, and the books that helped me understand something in this life:

    1. “Wake Up to Never” by Marisha Pessl.
I made you think about death, not because I didn't think about it before, but because death is still a bit of peace for you. You can't do anything with it, and immortality is a complete mess.

    2. Ender's Game by Scott Card
made me feel dumb. That's all.

  8. Stephen Covey – Seven habits of Highly effective people.

Marshal Rosenberg-The language of life, nonviolent communication.

Jeff Sutherland – SCRUM. A revolutionary method of project management.

Nassim Taleb – The Black Swan.

    Daniel Caniman-Think slow, decide fast.

However, before and between these books, there were hundreds of other, more or less useful and useless books. Immediately mentioned books may not be available.

What I don't recommend reading in the top ten is so accurate.

    TRIZ

    R. Kiyosaki

    B. Tracy

    K. Bredenmaier Black Rhetoric

    NLP

    Esotericism

    Emotional intelligence, etc.

  9. Personally, I don't believe in the existence of a book or books that will help a person understand life. As for me, to understand life, you just need to live. But there are books that can help change a person's thinking, character, but no more.

From foreign literature, I would advise you to read the author Stephen R. Covey's seven habits of highly effective people. The book will help you realize yourself and live a harmonious and meaningful life.

  10. I received a notification that I was being asked to answer this question… OK, let's try it. There is no such book. There are many sources from which you can get information. The bottom line is to use it correctly. Understanding life consists of many elements, but, paradoxically, most of them are not important. You can understand how the TV remote works, or you can just be able to use it, which will be much more useful in life. This leads to the conclusion that ultimately it is more important to be able to live than to understand it. And, oddly enough, the more you know, the harder it is to make a decision. To answer this question specifically, these are books on physics and psychology.

  11. Yes, there is. This book is “The Quiet Don” by Sholokhov. This book is not so much about the Cossacks, not about wars and revolution. More about people. The same people, but in different situations.

After this book, not much is interesting anymore.

  12. History – to learn the life experience of people.

Psychology and physiology – to understand people.

Physics – to understand the laws of the world.

And a philosophy to understand that there is only one rule in this world , haha-everyone sets the rules for themselves.

  13. I think you will be very impressed by the books and works written by psychologist Victoria Solovyova. Her books help to understand how and by what laws life is organized. They are extraordinary – every time you read them, you find something new for yourself…

  14. I consider Abd-ru-shin's book “In the Light of Truth”to be the most important book in my life.

This book has put together the puzzle of my understanding of the world and the world order.

Specific answers to simple questions are given: Where are we from? How did it all start? Where are we going? What is nature and how “it” created everything-from stone to man.. Can I eat meat? And many ,many other questions were answered in this three-volume book..

Read it and you won't regret it!!!!

  15. The book that really makes you think is undoubtedly the Koran.. it is worth noting that the verses in this book are not subject to independent interpretation.

  16. The best way to understand life is through the experience of other people, interpreted correctly by them, and by you, too. Your experience is also superimposed on this. And books, well, books-a textbook on psychology or physics is the coolest thing, but to say that scientists or psychologists understand life (what does this even mean? such a vague and multifaceted concept…), even at the level of scientific terminology, not to mention operating with concepts like “success”, “happiness”, “the meaning of life” and how, most importantly, to achieve this… Many people only pretend to understand, either out of fear of admitting their inadequacy, being an adult who seems to understand this life by default, whatever that means, and/or out of self-deception, or out of self-serving goals to deceive others. I don't think people in the modern world are happier than they were, say, 100, 200 or X years ago. This is difficult to measure, a very subjective thing, not the fact that progress in this regard makes it better (rather, there is an opinion that it is worse) and no books will change this, they will not change it dramatically, I mean. And so, certain life attitudes and patterns – they can be drawn from anywhere – both from a textbook on psychology, or from a fiction novel with social problems, or I even like movies and TV shows better. In high-quality works there is a lot of psychology and information “for life”, as they say.

  17. Take half a kilo of Dreiser, mix it in equal proportions with Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, generously flavor with Chekhov, if you like spicy – add a little Hash, knead with Steinbeck (if there is no Steinbeck, take Faulkner, but this is for lovers of southern cuisine). Be sure to season with Zola and Maupassant. And I like to put more Maugham in! Maugham doesn't happen much. Pour in the Thomas Mann and simmer. On top, you can decorate with Aldington. Wash it down with modern literature, as a side dish biographies and diaries of outstanding personalities.

In general, the understanding of life, of course, should not be taken from one book. And not just from books. But here are the first ones I would recommend: “Siddhartha” by Hesse, “The Adventures of the Brave soldier Schweik” by Hasek, “Laurel” by Evgeny Vodolazkin.

  18. Well, how is it that there is no universal book dear!!?)) You are deeply mistaken… Here is Read or listen to the audio book of the authors Esther and Jerry by the name of Hicks)) The book is called “The Law of Attraction” Abraham is not a human mind made up of multiple personalities ..they give us good advice and practices whether they are people, being on our planet…they envy us and are surprised that we are like this….well, in general, you better listen to it yourself…or read it )) Write me an email kondratfedos@gmail.com I can give you a link to the cloud with this” coolest ” IMHO book) I hug everyone and throw up; -) and know..there is such a book!!)) I would like to share it with you.

  19. S. V. Savelyev “Poverty of the brain”, “Cerebral sorting”, “Morphology of consciousness”.

These books describe the motivations of human thinking and behavior. Fundamental information is provided based on many years of brain research. In a word, the reason for our behavior is investigated in the original source, without subjective value judgments, which cannot be said about fiction or psychological literature that is not tied to actual data.

  20. My answer will be very pretentious and vulgar, but it will not be devoid of meaning. I think the book that really allowed me to understand people, and equally life, is the Bible. I think you might not even be a religious person to read it. For its true understanding, it may be necessary to be a believer, I will not discuss this here. The point is that when you read the book, you take the place of the actual characters: take the place of Abraham and be ready to kill your own son, take the place of King David and think about whether you could withstand all the passions and weaknesses, and at the same time manage people fairly, take the place of Jonah, who does not want to fulfill the requirements of God, and even, At the same time, it is impossible to say that I fully understood life. Every year you learn something new, reflect, discover and realize new meanings – and all this is compared with your own life.

Otherwise, my answer will be banal, but it also makes sense. I think I was influenced to some extent by all the books I read, even, paradoxically, the children's primer.

  21. You know, yes, there is. At one time, I thought very, very long about the book by Henry Lyon Oldie – The hero must be alone.
Under the story of the ancient Greek pantheon, there is a very big philosophical bun about the truly incredible power that a person is endowed with. And the most interesting thing is absolutely every person. And a businessman and a doctor and a cleaner in the entrance. Everyone, absolutely everyone, has this power, this power, this superpower, if you will. It was after this book that I began to think about how plastic the human psyche and mind are, how flexible, adaptable and vulnerable it is. In general, there is really something to think about)

I try not to spoil the plot for you, so the answer looks a little vague), do not blame me. Better just read the book, it's really good

  22. Just the other day I read the book Hanya Yanagihara, A Small Life, it really impressed me, made me think about a lot of things, what complex creatures people are, how much everyone has inside experiences and torments. Still under the impression.

  23. Erich Fromm “Anatomy of Human destructiveness”. Although you can read it all in a row.
Ethology (yes, even the same Dolnik with other Lorentz), video lectures by Sapolsky-if you are too lazy to read.
And it is better to breed bees (starting with the “Kolodnoe beekeeping” of the 18mohn year and then with all stops), because people are hopeless (for this topic, see Pelevin 🙂

  24. There is only one book and it is the Bible, but alas, they cannot read it. However. I will briefly help you. They gave a book to one who could read, but he said, ” I can't read it, because it's sealed.”There are many things directly written, and –for a thousand years have not read.. God created Paradise on earth, and nowhere else, and the name Paradise means nothing else in translation, as a garden. They were naked and not shy. So now nothing has changed, children are not shy, you can hardly make them put on underpants. Yes, and the kindergarten name has not changed, although there are no fruit trees. When they grew up, they were shy. Why did God put Adam in the garden? Cultivate it and protect it. That is, to work. And for no other reason, but not by prayers to please the ear. And sent you out of paradise to where ? To Hell. That is, the same place on earth, and said multiplying multiply.. my wife will give birth in agony… So, in ancient Greek, it sounds like “Hades” – torment. So this word came to the Russian language without translation – Hell. Now, in Russian, it sounds like-aside-. “I am from / at/ Vasily Petrovich.”., ” From /at/ who did you get such thoughts?”. As for the conversations of Jesus, he did not refer to the Kingdom of heaven, the Heavenly Father, as his future pope, by heaven. Formerly there were heavens, now there is heaven, formerly there were kingdoms, now there are states. So sow today in the day of tomorrow, in this life in the future. That's what Jesus was talking about – Here's a sower come out.. And what Jesus came for is to give the commandments, which is analogous to not eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. I give you the Last Covenant, which is also the First: you shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil…You are rewarded, and you will be rewarded, and you will reap what you have sown in this life. According to the sound, not the spelling rules…And if it's about the Trinity, it's PAsMAtri. What was promised to Russia has been fulfilled. Here weirdos, pray for heaven to be born on earth, but they don't believe in reincarnation. But they doubt the Hereafter. Live happily ever after

  25. 12 Mind Science Lessons by Frederick Bales. Written in the 20s of the last century. Translated into Russian. Can be found for free on the internet. “Today I am entering the path of conscious acceptance of harmony. I banish all resentments or feelings of self-pity, even if they seem quite justified to me….”

  26. The Bible helped me understand that my troubles were my own fault. Whenever I gave up my freedom and opted for slavery, I sinned and suffered catastrophes. The life of intelligent beings is centered in freedom, which is sacred, and it is the meaning of earthly life to cherish and multiply it to the state of God-likeness.

  27. Any books that you can master will help you understand life. The tension that is created for reading the book, according to the law (internalization)you must go inside and light up the “dark well of your soul”. “Read thyself” is the same as ” Know thyself “(inscription on the Delphic temple) and “tension is education” (Herzen)

  28. Yonge Mengyur Rimpoche, ” The Buddha and the Neurophysiology of Happiness, “followed by Richard Bach,”Illusions.” And so, somehow, “Thus saith Zarathustra” and “Atlas shrugged”became clearer. And faded: the Gospel, the Koran, the Torah. And the Constitution, the Criminal Code, and the Labor Code began to play with new colors.

  30. “Gentlemen. I can't make or teach anyone to understand. Understanding is determined solely by the quality of thinking, and this is necessary and can be learned from childhood, now it's too late, unless you take it seriously, but this greatly distracts from the practical aspects of life. Therefore, anyone who does not understand the truth of dialectics-spit: you can know, remember, believe. Most even so-called scientists know, remember, and believe without understanding. It is very time-consuming and not everyone can handle it.”

    Michael Weller “All about Life”

  31. Exupery's” Little Prince ” showed me that when people strive for knowledge, money and position, they forget what is really important. To be happy, you don't need all this, it's just easier to relate to the world and live with your eyes wide open, cherish your feelings and loved ones.

  32. it's not a very big list, but it's still a big one. the brochure “especially dangerous infectious diseases”, 2 volumes of a textbook on the basics of criminalistics, the textbook “human anatomy, grade 10”, a reference book on chemistry with the periodic table in appendices and, of course, Demidovich's task book-that's it. they told me a lot about life.
