  1. Let's not confuse biology with cooking. The fact that the fruit of a tomato is a berry from a botanical point of view does not negate the fact that the tomato is a vegetable. Jam is a sweet dessert. Ketchup is not a dessert. Therefore, ketchup is not jam.

  2. I'm not sure. As far as I remember, the berries for jam are immediately covered with sugar and actually cooked that way.
    tomatoes are first ground, then boiled, and only then spices are added.
