    He says it not so much in whole sentences, but almost not even in whole words, and somehow crumpled, confused, without any challenge, which this phrase, taking it out of context, is very fond of attributing.

    It's just that Satine is trying to express an idea that is bigger than him. It is not enough for this thought.

    And, of course, only in the situation in which it is said — in a pit and half-delirious, when the owner of their house has just been stabbed, and for almost no reason, because there was no question of a person before, something like this can be said. Yes, and perceived, probably, too.

    Why does a person sound proud? Because sometimes there's nothing else. In addition to this name, the accessories are “che-lo-vek”.

    Is Sateen right? He's probably right. Why shouldn't he be right? In any case, as much as the concept of justice is idealistic and hardly applicable to reality, nevertheless, concepts based on faith in a person are fairer than those based on disbelief in him, assumptions that a person needs something else — electricity, a set of laws, a clean shirt, a long marriage, and even humanism as such — to be something worthy of him. As if a person needs to prove something like that.

    Probably so.

    But when at the end of the scene it turns out that after escaping from the flophouse of the main local patient and humanist, the drunken actor hangs himself — Satin can't say anything about it, except:

    “Eh… ruined the song… dur-rak!”

    That's all the pride.

Satin says that a person who has realized the tragedy of his existence should not despair and suffer these humiliations in the form of pity for him from other people, but, on the contrary, realize his value. “Everything in a person, everything for a person!”

And it was such a terribly unpleasant time when the “old” was broken and thrown away, and the new one has not yet been created . And indeed, “Man-it sounds proud”, but not us and not now.
