  1. In Russian, the word “epistemology” traditionally means the philosophical doctrine of knowledge in general (the theory of knowledge), and “epistemology” – something that relates specifically to the study of scientific knowledge (thus, epistemology is a section of epistemology).

In English, there is no such division: the word “epistemology” means what is called epistemology in Russian, including, among other things, the theory of scientific knowledge.

Currently, there is a tendency that in Russian the word “epistemology” is also beginning to be used as a synonym for the word “epistemology”. This is probably due, among other things, to the influence of translated works, in which translators often leave the word “epistemology” as “epistemology”.
