To do this, we have developed several questionnaires that can be found on the Internet. For example, the Major Depression Questionnaire and the Beck Questionnaire. The first one is short and reveals severe cases, the second one is long and more sensitive.
If the questionnaires say that everything is fine with you, then most likely you have nothing to worry about. If you have something according to the questionnaires, you should contact a psychiatrist for confirmation of the diagnosis and, if necessary, treatment.
Depression, like many other diseases, is very dangerous to let go. You can easily lose several years of your life and this disease can seriously destroy the psyche.
All my friends who have managed to get over depression mention one important sign: beautiful people disappear from the streets. So, if you haven't seen such people for a long time — run to the doctor.
You're depressed if you notice that you're not doing well.:
Reduced mood, even to melancholy;
Loss or sharp decline of pleasure, joy, and interest;
Reduced working capacity, difficulties in intellectual work;
If you have these 3 signs together for 2 weeks, then you are welcome to see a psychiatrist!
Only a psychiatrist can make a diagnosis, any other definition is at least biased. Do not forget that depression is a mental disorder, even if it is very romanticized.

The whole world is gray. Gloomy. And useless.
Everything you love-friends, hobbies, even animals and family-all this does not cause anything at all.
You just walk around, you just look at the world around you, you just fall asleep and wake up, and you don't expect anything. You don't really care about things that once meant a lot. It's just that you suddenly realize how meaningless and insignificant all this – everything around you, your whole life, and yourself – is.
Somewhere inside there are still some feelings, emotions, but they are so deep that you start to forget what it's like to laugh carelessly at something, enjoy the fleeting, just enjoy life.
I was walking home in the park, making plans for the evening, and then suddenly I asked myself sharply: She sat down on a bench and sat for forty minutes, just looking at nothing. I didn't want to do anything. I wanted it all to be over: all the cars, all the cities, all the things to do, and all the people, so that everything,everything, everything would just disappear. It's like watching an uninteresting TV show, and you want to skip a couple of episodes – just like here.
And when you come back from work/school, you want to disappear. Don't die: just disappear for half an hour so you're gone, and then come back.
And so it is constantly. I was brought out of this state by a strong fear for the life of a loved one.
Depression is when there is a gaping hole at the level of the solar plexus, the unbearable weight of one's own worthlessness constantly presses on the hunched shoulders. I wish so desperately that the driver of that big black car over there was drunk and didn't notice you as a pedestrian. Nothing can distract from the dark, exhausting thoughts: no concert, no disco. But if nothing comes out except lying on the couch, then it's not depression — it's laziness. The lack of hope for a better future is likely to turn out to be a primitive reluctance to move and change something. Loneliness will be a consequence of the meaninglessness of meetings and conversations that have happened before. In this case, the person is not bad, he is just bored.
He does not know how to entertain himself and organize his own life, but others should devote all their time and space to him. When they don't, because they have more important things to do than rock the egocentric fool in the hammock, their ears are filled with his exclamations: “I'm being neglected”, “I'm not needed by anyone”. From somewhere immediately there is a mannered apathy and loud sobs. All this concert ” An extra person with a deep trauma” is played out to a victorious candy and fun, then again melancholy and despondency.
Sometimes it is very convenient to shine a sour face and enjoy the attention of the public. If you are lucky, the pseudo-depressive will rush to help, trying to distract him from bad thoughts. The insidious provocateur is waiting for it.
It is very real to distinguish a true depressive from someone who only pretends to be such. It is enough to offer the pet a really interesting activity, easy and not requiring fantastic efforts. He will not hesitate for long, and if he agrees, he will loudly and enthusiastically express his boundless enthusiasm. You can also surround the suspect in the simulation with touching attention, say elegant compliments to him. A bored egocentric person will blush and crumple, but he will not be able to hide his happy blush and burning eyes. In turn, a true depressed person will be motionless and will treat any entertainment, friendly support, praise more than indifferently. The self-absorbed person does not care about what is happening if the inner world is cracked and covered with soot.
The difference between a pretender and a real patient will be noticeable to someone who looks carefully and asks correctly.
Why didn't I notice one very simple sign of depression? Low mood, decreased performance, and lack of pleasure can speak not only about depression. A person is depressed then, then he does not see a goal or a definite plan in his life. When he walks in a gloomy state and does not understand why he needs this life and how to live it further. Everything else is secondary.
Using this information, you can easily understand how to get out of depression.
How do you know if you're depressed? Everything brilliant is simple. You can pass the Lusher test. You learn a lot about yourself, and I was a little shocked when I read the test results.
In any society, buzzwords appear at different stages of history. Often such beautiful words simply explain our condition, our whims or inaction. And in this sense, the word “depression” is just perfect. It is neutral in terms of evaluating a person – a person will not say that he has dementia! Depression is shrouded in fleur, such an intelligent and beautiful touch. Many books have been written about it, and it's beautiful. Young people 18-20 years old are happy to say that they have depression, but in most cases they just talk about situationally low mood. Abandoned by a guy or a girl, scolded at work by the boss, put a deuce in school. Most people who talk about depression have no idea what it is. They take for depression asthenic state, whims or outright laziness.
But among such cases, there are also real depressive states. What is the difference between just a low mood and depression? We've ruined your mood – and you're sad all day. And then something good happens, the mood rises-and everything is wonderful again. You should not be afraid of a low mood – this is a normal regulator of human activity. When your mood is low – it is a signal that you need to improve it. Change your life, change your attitude towards a person who is unpleasant to you, or stop communicating with them. Depression can be described when this signal is held for a long time, despite real life circumstances. Depression is not only a bad mood, it is an inability to experience joy, a pessimistic prediction of the future, a self-deprecating assessment of the past. Negativity is projected into the past, present, and future.
If you are in this condition for several weeks or even months, you need to go to a specialist. Only he can make a diagnosis, because depression is different from depression. This may be a psychogenic depression associated with a certain internal breakdown. It can be associated with a somatic disease – in general, there are different forms, and only a specialist can help here. Any diagnoses that people make themselves don't work.
A mandatory component of treatment, if you have depression, is pharmacotherapy, that is, taking pills. Scientific studies have proven hundreds of times that the use of antidepressants is better than any other method. This does not mean that psychotherapy should be ignored. But you don't have to be afraid of pills. The development of antidepressants is primarily aimed at their safety. The most effective antidepressants were created in the 70s. They are the most powerful and best help with severe depression. But they had many side effects, most of which the pharmacists were able to manage. Modern antidepressants have few side effects. Most often, there are individual reactions (high blood pressure, nausea, fever, etc.), in which the psychiatrist changes treatment. Unfortunately, we cannot yet predict which patient will have a side effect.
I really like the succinct quote of Asi Kazantseva from the book “Who would have thought it! How the brain makes us do stupid things”:
“If you really had a real clinical depression, you would spend all your free time lying with your face to the wall instead of reading non-fiction books.”
Accordingly, lying with your face to the wall would also replace such hobbies as surfing VKontakte, for example, or posting questions on TheQuestion.
In general, I wish you good mental health .)
I just want to warn you that depression is not just sad things for every day. Depression is not sadness at all, it is depression, unwillingness to create, unwillingness to do everyday things, go somewhere.
It may be triggered by some event( as I had), or long-term suppressed your self-esteem(for example, someone humiliated you for a long time), or just sadness turned into pens,and then into a disease.
Depression cannot be cured by yourself, it will manifest itself from time to time in the form of ordinary sadness, which has no cause. If you feel uncomfortable with a huge crowd of people – these are signs of depression, if you do not want to do anything for a long time-these are also signs of it, if you are not happy with things that have always pleased you – these are signs of depression. Remember, if a bad event has happened and you are not upset , this is normal and you don't need to think about it.
There are several characteristic signs (after all, we are talking about the disease, and not about the state of “even sad”?):
You are always in a depressed or despondent state, you don't want to do anything, but you just can't pull yourself together. And then you start to think that you are just lazy or something is wrong with you;
It is very difficult to think about something good, it seems that the brain is always trying to make you think about bad things;
Tearfulness, frequent mood swings;
Somatic signs: dizziness, headache, insomnia (!!). Very often it happens that you think that you have something that hurts, for example, your heart, and the examination shows that everything is OK.
A more complete list was given by Evgeny, but I would advise you to see a doctor, even if there is a hit on my points – especially for a long time.
PS Do not go to psychologists! Go to psychotherapists or psychiatrists, that is, people with medical education, because psychologists will not be able to correctly diagnose you.
