  1. Understanding is the process of gathering information about an object (person, object, phenomenon, process, society), knowledge about which we want to acquire in order to use or only this knowledge or object, depending on the goal.

Awareness – determining the significance and value of information in terms of our goals and objectives.

The information collected is usually fragmentary in nature. It characterizes individual parts and sides of the object (qualities, structural elements, material properties, some characteristic features, maybe the flow rate, if we are talking about the process or development of a phenomenon, etc.).

The information is a kind of puzzle, from which you need to build a working model of the object. Puzzles already potentially contain system-structural and qualitative characteristics of the object.

After preliminary collection of information, the process of awareness begins. Although the process of awareness begins to develop in parallel already in the process of collecting information.

Understanding and awareness merge and form two sides of a single research process. By selecting a certain fragment of an object for research and gathering information about it, we are already trying to understand it, that is, to estimate what place, according to its qualities and structural characteristics, it could occupy in the speculative model of the object that we are trying to build. To understand is to understand the value of this information in terms of our goals and objectives.

The speculative form of information means information that still potentially exists only in the material structures of the psychological process, that is, it has not yet passed the stage of transformation into rational knowledge.

What is awareness? Awareness is, from my point of view, the process of creating a three-dimensional rational model of the existence of the studied object (person, object, phenomenon, process, society) in the environment (natural, physical, biological, social) in all the variety of its connections and interaction with the environment.

Now, in an era of crisis, it is fashionable to talk about the search for meaning. The search for meanings is the understanding, awareness and formation of real knowledge about society and the processes developing in it, as well as the creation of a working model of the state of the structure of society, on the basis of which it would be possible to influence the processes, if possible manage them and predict their development.

And if we have a goal to understand how an object exists in the world around us, then we can say that awareness is a test of the information we collect about the object for compliance with its natural laws.

How can I convey information so that people are aware of it?

    1) It should describe the subject as realistically as possible, that is, in accordance with the laws of nature. Nature is our common environment with the same laws for all of us, in which we constantly exist and act. Each of us has an experience of living in it, and no matter how it differs individually, it is the same in basic principles.

After all, Nature is our only impartial judge in disputes about how it works.

    2) The information should be presented in a language that your audience understands.

  2. Awareness is receiving information from the senses, stating a fact. They are aware of something. “And then I realized that I had passed a bus stop.”

Understanding is the identification of causal relationships. They understand the reasons. “I understood why there was no announcement of a stop.”

Historically, of course, “understand “came from” listen”, but since then a lot of water has flowed away and the idea of cause-and-effect relationships has become orders of magnitude more important. Accordingly, a term meaning exactly this was also needed, and the word “understand” is now increasingly being invested with a new meaning. But the old usage still remains.

  3. Awareness means different things in different contexts and in different people's speech. So the answer is: from

    • nothing before
    • the meaning of awareness as a process of carefully observing one's own processes (feelings, thinking, body sensations) or
    • awareness as insight: a one-time flash of understanding at a fundamentally new level.
  4. Understanding some information(this or that designation of facts or assumptions) is the ability of the mind to connect what is understood with the information it already has and somehow represent the interaction of what is already understood with what is understood, and awareness is the person's acceptance of responsibility for what is understood…

  5. Modern philosophers are the most useless category of”scientists”. They only know how to give definitions. Definitions that don't define anything at all. Some words are replaced by other words, which again and again generate words, words, words… This is not philosophy, this is pseudoscientific mental masturbation, dear doctors of science. That's my definition.

Now about the case. There is nothing complicated to understand, there is practically nothing here. I'll give you an example.

Have you ever felt ashamed? For me, yes. Shame is an automatic reaction, an emotional tremor that arises from an unsuccessful attempt to close, from the awareness of one's own”joints”. It's a bit ornate, but that's how the human mind works. In our example, shame is the sound of a train passing somewhere in the distance-awareness-which you can't see directly, but you know about its passage by the sound of the engine horn and the rattle of wheels. Congratulate yourself – some unintended realization has just happened to you.

A little later, when the sound of wheels subsides, and your ears stop burning, thoughts will appear that will bring you an “understanding” of the reasons for your action and, of course, you will find an excuse for yourself. This will be called “understanding”. That's all the difference.

Alas, unlike understanding, awareness is a completely tasteless thing. It has no color, no taste, no smell. There are few people who want to be truly aware, so soon you will be ashamed again. Joke.

Of course, shame is given as a vivid extreme example. Awareness is multi-faceted. It can trigger the entire spectrum of human emotions. It depends on what to realize. In the awareness of love, people do the unimaginable and beautiful, and in the awareness of happiness, sometimes they cry. In the awareness of hatred, murders are committed, and in the awareness of fear, betrayals are committed. Awareness itself is not the cause of all these actions, both beautiful and disgusting. In whose head exactly it occurs-that's the question. What are the personal qualities of the realizer? Awareness is a brief moment of being yourself (without embellishment or makeup). Most often spontaneous, or provoked by external factors.

If you suddenly thought that you “understood” something from what was written, then you didn't understand anything. If you want to hit me with a sneaker , you've got something. With respect.

  6. Understanding and awareness, as a comparison of two processes going as if in parallel, does not reflect the whole essence of their relationship. Understanding as an intellectual process is not always a complete synthesis of awareness. Awareness implies over- , over -, and over-intellectual processes, as well as non-intellectual processes.

Our time is characterized precisely by mechanical understanding, i.e. without awareness, superficially and intellectually. The degree of spirituality of the “conscious unit” and its desire for knowledge depends on what kind of understanding will be-without or with awareness.

Awareness implies deep feeling at the level of not only and not so much the physical five developed senses, but at the level of at least mental (subtle) feelings, perceptions, sensations, accompanied by deep reflection. Awareness is the crystallization of experience, understanding is the touch of certain information with varying degrees of awareness.

The degree of understanding can be expressed and evaluated by the form of symbols (language, gestures, etc.). Psychologists, linguists, and cognitive scientists of various fields are struggling with the form of expressing awareness and assessing its degree, but so far they have been unsuccessful.

  7. A certain Anastasia posed an incorrect question, without explaining what, in fact, interests her, and the “responders” were led and began to break their brains, comparing the incomparable. Anyone who understands the difference between an Object and an Object (i.e., the side of an object in a particular plane, context – see Lenin's “glass” with many different functions in different circumstances, its different “sides”), will not even answer this vague question.

What exactly did this” confused ” Anastasia want to understand? Awareness has nothing to do with it at all, and Understanding is easy to explain: it is such knowledge of an Object (thing or phenomenon) that comes close to the true, that is, proven by PRACTICE (feed-back). If the knowledge is correct, the person (subject) will predict how the thing will behave in certain circumstances, what will happen to it there or here, or about the Phenomenon-how it will develop or interact with another phenomenon (process) and what this interaction or development will lead to.

A reader tried to put a similar empty question on me when he found out that I had written a note “When will the science of psychology (Personality Theory) appear?” and to this day, poor fellow, he expects me to condescend to his complete lack of understanding of consciousness and, looking into his eyes, try to explain something to him in his complete ignorance. Well, let him keep hoping. I have described what happens in reality, but I don't care what a homegrown thinker with his primitive approaches is worried about.

  8. Understanding is the result of brain activity. (Time to throw stones, the scientific approach of studying the Whole in parts) Consciousness is the result of clearing the results of brain activity, which gives an understanding of the Whole as it is. Achieved by stopping the flow of thoughts.

  9. I think the author wanted to know that “understanding” and “awareness”( actually very vague definitions, but I will describe them in my own system of definitions), as the assimilation of some knowledge( my mother said not to touch a hot pot with your hands) and its application to your own body and mind ( you touched the damn pot, burned yourself and realized that my mother did not cheat).

I don't know if I got it, but I recently answered a similar question myself and found only this.

  10. Understanding is based on concepts – mental forms constructed by abstracting the image of what is understood from non-essential aspects and details. Awareness is an integral level of thought, a sequence of extreme transitions from a whole complex of sensations to an image, through the construction and application of concepts, speculative development of a phenomenon and bringing it to a clear pattern, equipping it with methodological, technological, instrumental, ready for active materialization.

  11. Just make a reservation, words/phrases are not important, the subtext is important – please read between the lines. So, I am familiar with people who at one time made the choice to participate in group work related to the growth of spirituality, meditation and, most importantly, with internal cleansing-awareness/recognition/extremely sincere recognition of the presence/decoding of their own fears/stereotypes/negative mental add-ons (not to mention greed, rivalry, flawed generosity (total donation), envy, resentment/guilt, hopelessness, jealousy… etc. etc.). Where all of the above, when “it” is not realized and is in the subconscious of a person, creates negative emotional reactions in situations that lead to a loss of vital energy and an increase in entropy. For more than 10 years, these people have been working on themselves – many fears and stereotypes have been removed/realized/worked out, and now, based on their own experience, they confidently state: the more a person's subconscious mind is “clogged” with negative mental-emotional add-ons-programs, the narrower the “pipe” he / she looks at reality and the fewer options for solving problems / problems are available to him / her. And, as a result, according to the breadth or narrowness of the scope of reality, each person builds his own logic/worldview/worldview, based on those facts/factors/concepts/teachings that a person is able to simultaneously contain and hold with his consciousness, perceiving/looking at reality through the corresponding “pipe”.

You can write a lot about the difference or connection between “understanding” and “awareness” in relation to external objects/events. However, for people who practice inner work, understanding, as such, is associated with the primary mental assimilation of information, and awareness arises in connection with the application/adaptation of the acquired information to oneself, according to the main goal – the growth of Awareness.

  12. Awareness is a process in consciousness that leads to the construction of a model: a phenomenon, process, or object based on perception. Understanding is the result when the causes, effects, and logical connections of a phenomenon, process, or object become clear based on the work of the mind or a sudden insight.

  13. Oh, this thirst for concreteness as a visual illustration and even a real exemplification (example) of even what exists in consciousness (in the range from “only in consciousness” to “not otherwise than through consciousness”)!!! 😤

Specifically want to? “I have them!” 😉

Anastasia UNDERSTANDS what she wants – a concrete ANSWER to her question. And (probably) at first wonders: why, instead of giving a specific answer, the interlocutors either somehow speak about the QUESTION, and not about its content (symptoms – “in different contexts”, ” historically… I need the term”), or answer THEIR OWN QUESTION (symptoms – “I answered myself”, “for me”).:)

That is, Anastasia guesses, the interlocutors UNDERSTAND the question differently. And otherwise, not just because of natural differences in age, education, experience, etc. – such differences can play a role for the content of the question, what it is about. It is essential that the QUESTION is also understood differently AS the QUESTION: whose is it? in what language is it set (everyday-professional, scientific-ideological, conceptual-figurative, etc.)? is the questioner present in the question and how exactly? is it touching (interesting?) question me? can I express my vision in the answer, or will I donate time and effort to help someone else see it? etc.:)

So in the question field (in the field of its content and the mood to ask) Anastasia gradually reveals his subject, at first (and usually in a negative form – ” Well, why DOESN'T HE UNDERSTAND my question?!”) – the person who answers, and then (if you have enough patience and perseverance to think about it) – the questioner himself (s): “What exactly am I asking? DO I understand what they're saying?”;)

And this state in which Anastasia finds herself is an AWARENESS of HERSELF in relation to the question and an AWARENESS of THE QUESTION as her own. And such AWARENESS expands and deepens (and sometimes rejects and replaces) the primary understanding, reveals itself as an integral condition of UNDERSTANDING. 🙂

How verbose is the concrete language… ; (Here is the same thing in the conceptual language, i.e. ABSTRACTLY: Understanding and awareness – categories, concepts of rational thinking (actually, only “understanding” has a categorical status-due to the historically long tradition of development and use in philosophy, psychology, linguistics, etc., “awareness” in my dictionary is an operationally intoned referent “(self)consciousness”) to describe and analyze the processes and results of human cognition and communication (oh, so many unions!). Often describing the same phenomena, these categories do so in a distinctive and complementary way. Understanding is a subject-oriented concept: something is understood (grasped in the concept) (whether it is an external object, or the internal state of the subject), which is in the focus of the understanding's attention. Awareness – subject-and peripheral-oriented, describes the framework condition of understanding: something is understood in its content, when it is understood as understood by me (the tautology is not accidental), it is taken in the context of characteristics and circumstances that describe me as an understanding subject.

Something like that… Good luck! 🙂
