  1. Yes, it is absolutely embedded, called “search behavior”.

It always works, if it is not broken by learned helplessness.

However, search behavior is not the “desire to know the world” that people imagine in the form of some such inspired scientist reading books and traveling around the Himalayas, they say, the world learns. We are curious precisely in the framework that matters to us personally. The desire to follow the personal lives of stars, digging up compromising material on them – the same desire for knowledge as reading Aristotle, is simply realized in different areas.

  2. Living organisms have an innate orienting reflex; this is closest to the concept of instinct, which is slightly outdated in science, but is applicable in everyday and popular sources).

It is the beginning of what psychologists now call a cognitive need (“need for cognition”), which is fundamentally not sated. It can be attributed to the sphere of drives-drives, that is, involuntary motivators of behavior.

  3. This is to some extent a need. Starting with the most primitive things. If there was no food, it was necessary to find it somehow. If people sat in fear of the unknown and were afraid to go into the unknown forest, they would starve to death. So we went. Curiosity and curiosity always favored such moments. Even though the risk wasn't always justified. However, there was often no choice.
In the modern world, the need for food production is no longer there. But there are others, for example, the need for self-expression, respect (according to Maslow). How can this be achieved? Through knowledge. And knowledge necessarily leads to research. Therefore, if a person learns something new and interesting for himself, then he experiences joy and happiness. And for the sake of such emotions, we are ready to go to great lengths.

  4. Yes, that's right – a person, as you put it, “naturally” has a tendency to learn. Our ancestors had a much worse life than we did. So here you want-you don't want, and you will start to pay attention to the patterns. If, of course, you want to survive.

You can see the result for yourself: in just a couple of hundred thousand years, we have become the masters of the planet. I remind you that compared to the entire history of the Earth, this is not even a moment.
