Don't trust anyone. :- ) Sublimation refers to the transition of a substance from a gaseous state immediately to a solid state, bypassing the liquid state. This is the so-called “first-order phase transition”, when the phase state of a substance radically changes during a phase transition. Real-life examples: gaseous water in the form of water vapor that settles in the form of frost on hard surfaces in the cold. Or again, a classic experiment from laboratory chemistry: planting iodine crystals from the gaseous state in the form of crystals on cooled glass. There are a lot of applications in real life: from the most well-known instant coffee production-it is made by sublimation of water vapor coming from vacuum drying with chilled water extract of coffee. Or the application of mono-molecular coatings – in the production of barrier polymer films, microchips, materials with special properties. Sublimation (more precisely, first sublimation – the reverse process of water conversion into steam, and then-the sublimation of water vapor into ice to remove it) is also used in the manufacture of some food products to increase their shelf life and nutritional value, and also, for example, to eliminate chemically unstable substances.
Psychologists “appropriated” this word, probably because it is probably very beautiful. The problem is that even if it develops analogies, it doesn't explain anything. This psychological phenomenon might just as well have been called “condensation” or” diffusion ” or … You get it, don't you?
Sublimation from the point of view of psychology, is a protective mechanism of the psyche, which implies the removal of internal tension by redirecting energy to achieve socially positive goals, for example, such as creativity. This is explained by the fact that human activity is a reaction of the body to internal urges and desires, which, in turn, are formed as a result of a combination of individual's own considerations and socio-cultural processes that affect individual needs and desires. The activity is carried out under the influence of the energy available to the individual, which can be directed towards achieving certain goals. Energy can also be used for a variety of individual needs of the body, but it can also be used for more important tasks.
For the first time, the famous psychologist Sigmund Freud expressed his opinion about the sublimative idea. In accordance with Freud's psychological concepts, the defense mechanism of the psyche, called sublimation, means a deviation from biological energy. It is a question of refusing to waste energy on sexual desire and then redirecting it to socially acceptable tasks. Freud considered the sublimative idea as a positive “defense”, arguing that the individual, adhering to such a protective mechanism of the psyche, pays more attention to constructive activities. Freud also noted the positive effect of sublimation on relieving the internal tension of the individual. Such a positive assessment of this defense mechanism is available in any therapy that is aimed at finding a socially adaptive solution, and not at getting rid of the individual's existing internal conflicts.
Effective use of sublimation by the following algorithm:
To get rid of the inner “tightness” in ordinary life, by analogy with emancipation in sex. Take each day and each new person in a positive perspective, as an experience.
Develop your imagination: one of the fundamental principles of sublimation. It is thanks to the imagination that the most amazing discoveries appear. And people rarely use this gift, being content to choose among ready-made options.
Be guided by intuition. Multiplied by your imagination, it helps you pick up ideas that are “in the air”. Sometimes this is what defines creative genius.
Apply the “black hole effect”. You can detach yourself from the outside world by locking yourself for several hours in a dark room with tightly curtained windows and complete sound insulation, or by using sensory deprivation cameras. This allows the psyche to detach itself from what is happening around and fully focus on solving the task at hand. All the senses are inactive, the brain is deprived of information for processing, and you can touch your unconscious: pictures and images pop up in your head, problems are seen from an unexpected angle, and solutions are found for complex problems.
Accept yourself. This is where we should start if we are talking about enhancing sexuality, which can then be transformed. Believe that you can and should be admired, cultivate love in yourself.
Remember the emotional boost inherent in the state of falling in love. This feeling is directed to the situation in which you need to succeed.
If we give simple examples from life, sublimation is
when a person suffering from strong fears draws them, and works of art are obtained. Creativity helps him to relax and calm down. Often in these cases, the artist talks about inspiration and something that “wants to be realized, and I help him.”
– when you want to sing love songs during hormonal suffering. Self-identification with one's creative impulse takes place, and the malignant energy finds its way out in beauty.
– when a man with sadistic tendencies goes to pathologists or surgeons. There, he gets the right to cut people up with impunity and also save their lives.
– the desire to give birth and raise a child can be sublimated in a barren woman into caring for her children in kindergarten or for her nephews.
– when after a hard job you relieve stress in the gym instead of snapping at your family.
– a well-known mechanism of sublimation of sexual energy into scandals and vice versa. Unrealized sex in a couple sometimes causes both the desire to quarrel or see the video.))
