  1. I propose to discuss such a thoughtconstruct.

In the biological sense of the word EVOLUTION-the change of living matter in the course of the development of an organism or in the sequence of generations of organisms, of course, there is no sense in art. But here, if we take evolution in a broad sense as processes of change, including in social systems, then the meaning of art appears. And every mother subconsciously understands this when she leads her little blood to a children's art school for HOLISTIC INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT.

We will talk about art in terms of practice, not enjoyment or a universal language system. Let this be a certain amount of scientific constraint. We will only mention in passing how sounds and images helped primitive people to transmit information, learn about the world around them, and, in their opinion, helped in the ritual (syncretism is syncretism). More interesting for us is that, among other things, drawing, extracting sounds, creating and transmitting myths, and maybe even “acting” in imitation, caused their neurons in the cerebral cortex to form connections, develop and survive.

And now humanity does not have so many classes where very complex fine motor skills are needed, and meaningful ones at that. In music, different handwork is combined with the strength and sharpness of keystrokes, with the decoding of the musical code and the creation of an artistic image. In ART, the same force of pressing a pencil, keeping the lines repeating a natural object, maintaining tonal relations, planning, encoding ideas in visual images, creating an artistic image. It's about the same in calligraphy, where complex motor skills are combined with conscious text. In general, this makes almost all the functional fields of the cerebral cortex work. After all, you need to watch, understand, encode, predict, reflect, correct motor skills… it's not for me in the psychology group to talk about the operation of functional fields. I can only say that it is creative (aimed at finding a qualitatively new one) the activity that is inherently associated with art causes a huge number of previously unconnected neurons to connect with synapses. Hence, there is a high probability of making effective decisions, insiders, insights and discoveries. Moreover, this development concerns not only professionals, but is accessible to everyone physiologically. This was the first part of the Marlaison Ballet.

Now the second one. About professionals.

Leonardo da Vinci's famous phrase: “When I play music, I study algebra; when I draw, I study geometry.” Leonardo's approach was very scientific. He seemed to master the world, understood it through sketching (I refer to Gombrich E. Art History. Translated by V. A. Kryuchkov and M. I. Maiskaya. Moscow: OOO Izdatelstvo-AST, 1998. – 688 p. P. 293, 296). And indeed, if we have ambitions to realistically convey accurate information about the observed object (for example, a portrait), then only one eye will help us in part. Vision gets tired, lighting changes, and there is a lack of understanding of anatomy-all of this leads to distortions in the image. Only reasoning and knowledge will help you visually accurately and competently solve a problem in a contradictory situation. A draftsman cannot do without a scientific method of cognition.

When a professional realistically conveys the revealed world, he must understand the objective laws of its existence and must know how to display physical realities, and this is understandable for the viewer's perception. In other words, when we draw nature, we do biology, chemistry, physics. When we draw a person, we add anatomy, physiology, psychology, and sociology to these sciences. And if we draw historical pictures… the answer is obvious: we are engaged in history, etc. up to futurology and philosophy. At the same time, those who draw ideally constantly gain knowledge in optics, the psychology of perception and the physiology of vision. Thus, the draughtsman becomes a scientist and thinker, and the drawing process can actualize and synthesize all knowledge about the world, establish intersubject connections, consider the world in its entirety, develop humanistic and ecological values, and push for additional study of various fields of knowledge.

Most likely, in aristocratic families, art was introduced into classical education for these reasons. Now we have such a holistic development is hardly feasible within the school curriculum with 40 minutes a week and despite the fact that in secondary school, art belongs to the variable part of the Federal State Educational Standard (i.e., the goals and objectives are planned by the teacher, not the state).

So, art classes can increase the intellectual and spiritual level, if you purposefully direct the focus of the public order to this. Especially when art and visualization in general face challenges from digitalization and artificial intelligence. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a conservative or an “old believer”, and I can really make professional design more accurate and faster, but IF WE GIVE UP MANUAL DRAWING, WE WILL DEGRADE.

  2. This is one of the unsolved problems that evolutionists and art historians are puzzling over. Art is one of the features of homo sapiens that distinguishes us from primates and all other animals.

Where are the roots of art in the evolutionary development of man? Maybe it all started when someone first thought of it or accidentally painted his body with mud (plant juice) in order not to differ from the environment and get closer to the victim, or vice versa to hide from the predator? Obviously, this would increase his chance of survival and lucky hunters are loved by girls. Moreover, the environment changes color and we often had to improve this camouflage technique. That would be a start.

Then it took many thousands and hundreds of thousands of years for the corresponding changes in the neural connections in the brains of our highly gifted ancestors to lead us to modern art. Whether it was true or not, the professionals will decide one day. I, not an expert, should stop there.

  3. It is not necessary that art has a meaning “from the point of view of evolution”. People are not reducible to biology, otherwise there would be no need to invent psychology and sociology, which have their own laws in addition to biological evolution.

The only known culture that doesn't have art is the Pirahan tribe. And this statement is not fully confirmed, it is likely that they still have art.

Apparently, the meaning of art is that it is an inevitable consequence of self-consciousness. You can't live by thinking about your life and not create art. And even if it is possible – let's say that the pirahan really does not have it – this is possible only if you live like them, that is, without developing or evolving much.

Art is meaning. Art is memory. Art is something that is bigger than human life, a way to go beyond it, to join history.

  4. from the point of view of evolution… art is a side effect, with no apparent harm to the development of the species. Conceals positive effects-accumulating and combining the thoughts and emotions of the masses, periodically catapults the species immediately to the N-th level. This usually happens through one representative of the species-the “Genius”.

this is what concerns the benefits “from the point of view of evolution”.

evolution does not know what is unprofitable. She has no understanding of failure. She runs like a tank, not even neglecting to change the favorite. from one slow-down type to another, more successful one. But evolution keeps art in the position of a pioneer. He tries all the most incredible development options on it. And art itself is always degraded in the context of the species. Have you ever seen or heard of art becoming more sophisticated over time? I'm not. And no one. We won't notice this as a species. Art is a mental platform for testing development options! Use it boldly and don't be afraid of creative degradation. the bolder, the more successful!

  5. Art is essentially a reflection of a person's desire to reproduce natural harmony and beauty through various tools; an attempt to adapt it to themselves, make it understandable and accessible (how to cook food, isn't it?).

Now we need to understand what a person generally gets by tasting beauty in its various forms.

Pleasure? Definitely. But that doesn't answer the question. Because there is something else behind pleasure.

Everything that somehow brings us pleasure has some evolutionary meaning. Otherwise, it simply would not have been fixed in the course of natural selection.

In this regard, I dare to suggest that through interaction with beauty, a person receives something very valuable. Not material. Rather energy, informational. Something that fills and stabilizes a person.

And, accordingly, increases the chances of survival:)

  6. The point of art is to improve a person. The evolution of art is probably over, but this is my subjective opinion.
If you compare what people have done in this area with what is happening now, it's just scary.
I liked the answer: “If we stop drawing with our hands , we will degrade”
It seems to be correct.Only there is one small nuance: What will we continue to draw with our hands?
If something is usually primitive for ordinary people, although all these crafts are very popular, because people themselves have degraded-this is one thing .
If this is something new, original and unusual, drawn with excellent technique-this is completely different .
But the fact is that good and excellent art is now not needed by anyone, with some exceptions.
The same applies to literature and music.
How can art evolve if the majority of humanity is degraded??!!

  7. Art, as Elena Roerich said, was the highest incentive for the revival of the spirit.

Therefore, art is immortal and boundless. The evolution of humanity includes both material and spiritual components.

Spirit cannot evolve without matter, just as matter cannot evolve without spirit. Another thing is that the rates and levels of evolution of matter and spirit do not exactly coincide in time periods.

As a rule, intelligence, technology, and scientific and technical achievements outstrip spiritual progress. Art is the wind in the sails of the spirit to achieve moral perfection.

  8. Art is a way of knowing the World (God) through an Image. This is part of a unified knowledge system. True art brings us closer to God, to the Absolute. Thus, art is a reference point for a person at all times.

  9. Art and evolution are abstract concepts, neither of which is real. Art is a copy of Nature, and a copy is always worse than the original. Real art is Nature, everything that Nature creates is unique and real art. Evolution is an invention of unintelligent people who are ready to believe any charlatan. Evolution is for a certain type of people an excuse for their ignorance. The art of seeing the beautiful in the beautiful is the secret of the whole worldview. With respect.

  10. Art is the transformation of the physical world into objects of art. Everything made by humans is artificial. Houses, cars, tools, etc. Over time, all this “art” decays and turns into garbage. If you don't recycle it and make a new “art” out of it, one day humanity will drown in its own shit.

  11. In the search for inner harmony and beauty, and in expressing this state on external media. The meaning of human evolution is to ascend from man to God-man and above, and art is the main way to achieve this. Objects of art and craftsmanship are designed to carry the best human emanations and pass them on from generation to generation.

  12. Art – I'll take the liberty of defining it-is an artistic representation of reality. From the point of view of evolution, art is just beginning to manifest itself, with the development of consciousness capable of manifesting this quality. Figurative or artistic representation of reality is a form of perception for understanding the complex laws of nature. Art can also include all inventions that are largely due to this form of imaginative perception and thinking. How this will affect further evolution… Yes, it has already affected the explosive scientific and technological revolution over the past 200 years. What it “evolves” into, most likely artificial intelligence. It means the evolution of the mind, no matter in what form… apparently, the biological phase of evolution, and in particular, as the pinnacle of biological evolution – the mind, is ending.

  13. From the point of view of evolution, art initially emerged as an occupation of sapiens (in the process of developing his group intelligence) aimed at developing methods for external storage of information.

The first artefacts of art (the first attempts to store information on external media) were handprints made with paint on walls about 70,000 years ago. This was a real breakthrough, because up to this point, information was transmitted only through speech and disappeared after the death of sapiens.

The further evolution of methods of storing and exchanging information led first to the emergence of writing, and today to the emergence of the Internet.

Preservation on external media and subsequent transmission of information is the first evolutionary goal of the development of primary art.

In addition to transmitting information, sapiens is in dire need of a break from their labors. Rest for sapiens is getting positive emotions in the most economical way possible, when the emotion appears, but no effort is made for this. Art provides exactly this opportunity. Looking at art objects, we get emotions for nothing, without spending our own efforts.

Recreation (recovery from work) combined with positive emotions stimulates the desire to live and is the second evolutionary goal of the development of art.

The arts have no other evolutionary meaning.

  14. Sexual selection. Animals also do not always show off only the size of their tails, horns and muscles, but often show their skills (talents). For example, birds sing or build beautiful, colorful nests to attract a mate.
Since a person will still be more complex, for him art has acquired a different meaning, magic, power and has already become great.
This does not mean that art should be reduced to some kind of primitive because of this fact, as some people who disagree with the theory of evolution like to do.

  15. The answer is simple and complex at the same time – the meaning of art from the point of view of evolution is the same as the meaning of Reason from the point of view of evolution.

Abstract thinking that is more suitable “for adaptation to the environment”, up to the “final victorious” idea of artificial change of the environment. Which led to the winning of homo sapiens over competitors wild animals.

The species that developed intelligence, including imagination, became the best on Earth. Certain types of art may already be side branches, “not all are equally useful”, but creative “artistic” thinking itself is an obligatory part of the Mind.

    • A positive way to feed yourself. A huge plus in the struggle for existence, yes. Artist-investor-consultant – all competent characters-in chocolate.

    • Plus in sexual selection. Well, yes. Even directly, and if the bohemian status and erudition are also accompanied by money…

We had an individual selection process. Then there is the population one. And the whole population of art gives all the same money, and fame. Very helpful. But not only that, it also “inspires” both the masses as a whole and the intellectual elites, and increases the prestige of stingy labor. It does a lot of useful things.
