Basically-negation, in two aggregate forms:
1) Repression-requires a sufficiently developed mental structure, due to which it allows you to sculpt illusions, rationalizations, etc. In order to simply squeeze out uncomfortable and” obscene ” feelings and ideas away from consciousness;
2) Alienation (Dissociation) – a more primitive option, a kind of”denial on the minimum standards”. In this case, the mental functions do not cope with the complete isolation of unacceptable material, but they can “break off” it – that is, disconnect it from the general stream of consciousness, which can lead to various symptoms. But most often, this material is simply projected (attributed) somewhere outside, allowing you to preserve a flawed, but more or less transferable (subjectively) image of reality.
Actually, a healthy alternative (which you still need to be able to afford) of denial is that very unconditional acceptance. It also has its own specifics, this is a separate issue.
There is no general classification of mental mechanisms, there are a certain number of them, depending on the point of view of which psychological school they are considered from.
Therefore, I will answer in simple language, without terms.
A person is so arranged that there will never be full consciousness, always some considerable part of the processes proceeds unconsciously.
We can only train the skill of mindfulness, directing our attention to certain of our life processes.
Where there is no awareness, reactions and actions happen automatically.
This is partly done to save energy. Why spend attention on routine actions, if you can tie your shoelaces without regaining consciousness, our body “thinks” and puts many processes in automatic mode.
In addition to the usual automatism, there is also avoidance, not noticing unpleasant, traumatic experiences, so our psyche protects us from painful experiences that actually happened once or are fantasized in the future.
For example, based on personal experience or inspired by the belief “big money brings a lot of problems”, a person may unconsciously avoid getting a high-paying job. And on the external level, it is very talented to justify to yourself and others why this is impossible.
There is still such a possibility as overload. This sounds strange to those who believe that mindfulness is always good and should be pursued.
The process of awareness requires resources, and managing your attention is work. And sometimes this work is too much, there is no resource for it. Then you need to switch off, relax, and rest your body. As they say in the people, “put down”.
The only thing that prevents full awareness is the unwillingness to accept reality as it is. On the other hand, it means that a person has the potential to somehow change reality, improve it. But if a person, again, does not want to take any personal actions for this, is not ready to take responsibility, then he simply reduces his awareness. This is a psychological escape mechanism from reality.
Alienation, rejection, denial,
Awareness or awareness is a process that leads to awareness , i.e. an action (process) that leads to a result. If we don't want to do something , then there will be no result . We need an interest in the process .
Mindfulness is the state of clarity that comes after overcoming the automaticity of ordinary awareness. Consequently, the mental mechanism that tends to preserve the usual pattern of actions is the main brake on the development of awareness.
We can refer to this mechanism as a blocking program. This program is a defense of the ego (i.e., what a person considers himself or herself). This program manifests itself in a sense of disagreement, protest, rejection / disgust, or indifference.
Tracking your resistance to change and positive influences is one of the key techniques for developing mindfulness.
I can't give you an academic classification. But based on their life experience, the main obstacles are a low level of education, lack of critical thinking, and fear of the unknown.
Laziness, pride, and fear.

2) Carelessness
3) Self-deception

How to overcome this?
1) Call any judgment, even (especially) your own, into question
2) Try to look at any concept / situation from different points of view, especially opposite ones
3) Accept yourself as you are, but constantly improve yourself
