Are we responsible for the actions of our ancestors?
To some extent, we share their fate and inherit much that they passed on to us at the level of DNA, mentality, genes, ideology, diseases and delusions, etc. Of course, we can go the other way – there is something innate, but there is something acquired. So the innate is just what passes down to us from our ancestors.
In general, the question is very deep and in a nutshell it is difficult to comprehend all the subtleties, I will give only a couple of fundamental guides in this regard:
6 And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed: the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
7 keeping mercy to thousands [of childbirth], forgiving guilt and transgression and sin, but does not leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children unto the third and fourth generation.(Exodus 34: 6,7)
26 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, saying,:
27 How long will this evil congregation murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel against Me.
28 And thou shalt say unto them, As I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in my hearing, so will I do unto you.
29 In this wilderness shall your bodies fall, and all that are numbered of you, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me.
30 do not enter into the land which I podjela My hand, [swore] to settle you, except Caleb, son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of nun;
31 as for your children that you said would become a prey [the enemies], I will bring [it] and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
32 and your corpses will fall in this wilderness;
33 and your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear [the penalty] for your unfaithfulness, until you perish all your bodies in the wilderness(Num.14:26-33)
18 Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible silver or gold from the vain life handed down to you from your fathers
19 But by the precious Blood of Christ, as of an immaculate and pure Lamb
(1 Peter 1: 18,19).
That is, there is such a thing as atonement for the guilt of parents, their mistakes and delusions..But you can also be redeemed from their guilt and the vain life they have passed on.
