The Bible claims to contain accurate and truthful information. This book describes events that happened in reality and with real people. Many historians and archaeologists confirm the accuracy of dates, names, places and events mentioned in the Bible. It mentions some scientific facts. Many of these facts contradicted the ideas of the people of the past. But modern science confirms that the Bible contains accurate information. Probably everyone knows what ideas people had in the past about the Earth. But this is what the Bible recorded about 3,500 years ago: “He stretched out the north over the wilderness, and hung the earth on nothing” (Job 26: 7). Also, only armed with powerful telescopes, scientists were able to come to the conclusion about the sudden “birth” of the Universe. However, long before there were telescopes, the first lines of the Bible clearly stated, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis chapter 1 verse 1).
Only a few points are listed here. But if you study the Bible, you can make sure that it can be trusted.
The Bible itself consists of two main parts, which were formed over hundreds of years and includes both purely historical facts and some kind of folklore elements (Song of Songs, for example).
If you want to believe that the Bible is a very ancient historical source, the facts of which coincide with the facts of history, then start studying Bible studies. This is a scientific discipline based on generally accepted methods of working with texts.
If you are looking for proof of the existence of God, then turn to Kantian, mathematical, or psychological-anthropological approaches, for example.
Look for arguments ” against “and you may soon find all the arguments”for”.
Trust the Bible in what?
Trust it as a historical source? But the Bible was not written as a history textbook. The books in it, even when they relate to history, write about it as a spiritual view of history. I don't say right or wrong. The point is that almost any story told in the Bible is not about a sequence of facts, but a spiritual lesson in the realities of that time.
Trust the Bible as a source of knowledge about religion?
Can I learn Hinduism by reading the Vedas? Buddhism by reading the Tripitaka? And the Bible is the same old book. And also from a faraway country with its own culture. The Bible is one, and there are many different people who believe that they understand it correctly. Catholics, Orthodox Christians, many different Protestants and Jehovah's Witnesses, for example, all believe that they understand the Bible correctly. Imagine that you are an alien. Who do you think is the right translator and interpreter of the Bible?
After all, both I and my opponents sincerely consider themselves right. However, I still do not consider myself an interpreter of the Bible, although sometimes I really want to.
What do I do? I look – here are the people, I feel good with them, I feel that they are kind and interesting. Here is such an interpreter of the Bible I am ready to entrust, and then, not to one, but to listen to several. For me, this interpretation was the book “Son of Man” by Father Alexander Me. His murder in the fall of 1990 was such a terrible light and salt finished the line between reading and life. Here it is, everything is happening here, not thousands of years ago, but here and now.
It is necessary to get acquainted, if it is really interesting, not to be biased, to look for light, good. My father taught me to learn the words of other languages, to greet friends at Easter, you need to see and feel how people open up. Fortunately, neither I think nor I have come across those who are “I alone am right”.
The Gospel, in fact, says that Jesus is the Truth, not the book is the truth, and therefore the truth cannot be possessed, not put in your pocket, not put in a comment.
P.S. By the way, it would be very interesting if the Bible was unknown, but now it would be found – in what key it would be commented on, its historicity, the peculiarity of its people in comparison with its neighbors, and so on )
Currently, the scientific community does not recognize the Bible as a historically accurate document, as well as a reliable code of moral conduct.
Regarding the historicity of the Bible, there are many scientific and pseudoscientific works. If you start looking for comments on the Bible on the Internet, you quickly realize that usually people who undertake to comment on the Bible do it one-sidedly, since they themselves are adherents of Christianity (for example, Orthodox theologian Professor Lopukhin wikipedia.org). Therefore, I would advise you to read and think for yourself, at least for a start. And if you are looking for comments, look for comments from skeptics, not believers, because believers will never give the full picture.
We are taught enough about the” bright side ” of the Bible, and I will not say that there is nothing good in this book. However, there is enough bad stuff there. Here are a few quotes from Deuteronomy:
1) 13: 12 If you hear about any of your cities that the Lord your God is giving you to live in,
13:13 That wicked men from among you have appeared in it, and have seduced the inhabitants of their city, saying, ” Let us go and serve other gods, which you did not know.”, —
13:14 then search, search, and inquire well; and if it be true that this abomination hath happened in the midst of you,
13: 15 And thou shalt smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword; and thou shalt utterly destroy it, and all that is therein, and its cattle with the edge of the sword.;
13: 16 And thou shalt gather all the spoil thereof into the midst of its square, and burn the city with fire, and all the spoil thereof, for a burnt offering unto the LORD thy God: and it shall be in ruins for ever: it shall never be built up again;
13: 17 Let nothing of the accursed thing cling to your hand, that the LORD may restrain the fury of his wrath, and give you mercy, and have mercy on you, and multiply you, as he swore to your fathers,
13: 18 If you will listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and keep all his commandments which I command you this day, and do that which is right in the sight of the LORD your God.
(very similar to inciting hatred on religious grounds, isn't it?)
2) 22: 28 If a man meets a virgin who is not tamed, and seizes her, and lies with her, and they are caught,
22: 29 Then he who lies with her shall give the young woman's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has defiled her.
(I wonder why no one asks a young girl if she wants to marry a rapist who has now had to buy her out of her father like some damaged commodity.)
3) 21:18 If a man has a rebellious and rebellious son, who disobeys the voice of his father and the voice of his mother, and they punish him, but he does not listen to them, —
21: 19 then his father and his mother shall take him, and bring him to the elders of their city, and to the gates of their dwelling place
21: 20 And they will say to the elders of their city, ” This son of ours is violent and disobedient; he does not listen to our words, he is a drunkard and a drunkard.”;
21: 21 Then all the inhabitants of his city shall stone him to death; and thou shalt put away evil from among thee, and all Israel shall hear and fear.
(a rebellious child? Kill brutally with the entire city)
The Bible is an extremely xenophobic book. It prohibits marriage with foreigners, homosexuality, dissent, etc. and calls for severe punishment for these “sins”.
Remember that the Bible was written a long time ago. To put it mildly, the moral standards that it offers are outdated. With this book, some people have manipulated others for centuries. If we did not strive for knowledge that is not approved by either the Bible or the church, if we did not set up “unethical” scientific experiments, which Christians prevented and still prevent, if we did not strive for freedom and equality, then we would continue to live in tents in the middle of the desert, in a wild patriarchal world without medicine and technology, tattoos and in general any art that is not related to the Bible, we would and intimidated individuals whose lives would be no better than a slave's, we would have sex only for the sake of procreation, we would execute heretics and philosophers simply for looking at the world differently.
Again, I'm not saying that the Bible is not good. Useful lessons can be learned from it. However, I would not recommend trusting this book.
The Bible records accurate and truthful information (Ecclesiastes 12: 10). This book describes events that happened in reality and with real people.
One lawyer once noted: “In novels, legends, and false statements, events usually take place at an unknown time and place, which violates the first rule that we lawyers are taught about the proper preparation of statements to the court, namely:” the statement must indicate the time and place of the incident.” However, in the biblical narrative, the dates and places of the events described are indicated with surprising accuracy”
In confirmation, he gaveLuke 3:1, 2: “In the fifteenth year of the reign of Caesar Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was ruler of Judea, Herod was ruler of the region of Galilee, his brother Philip was ruler of the region of Iturea and the Trachonite region, and Lysanias was ruler of the region of Abilene, in the days of Caiaphas and Annas the high priest, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.”
This passage clearly indicates the time and place. In addition, Luke names seven people in authority by name. This allows you to determine when John and Jesus began their ministry.

Many historians and archaeologists confirm the accuracy of dates, names, places and events mentioned in the Bible.
How do we know that the Bible is not”out of date”?
The Bible was in many ways ahead of its time. For example, it mentions some scientific facts. Many of these facts contradicted the ideas of the people of the past. But modern science confirms that the Bible contains accurate information. The Bible was and still is reliable and unchangeable (Psalm 111: 8).
Why can the Bible's messages about the future be believed?
There are prophecies in the Bible that speak of “things that have not yet” happened.
Isaiah 46: 10: “I declare from the beginning what will be in the end, and from ancient times what has not yet been done; I say, My counsel will stand, and whatever it pleases me I will do.”
It accurately described many historical events, long before they occurred. It also describes the current conditions in the world with amazing accuracy.
2 Timothy 3: 1-4: “This is for you to know that in the LAST DAYS there will be severe times. After all, people will be selfish, stingy, proud, arrogant, slanderous, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, inflexible( lit. translation – irreconcilability between political parties. political parties), slanderers, incontinent, merciless, opposers of good, traitors, irresponsible, blinded by pride, lovers of pleasure more than God,”
This is a very interesting and ancient question. Among the researchers who want to answer this question, there are those who try to prove that everything written in the Bible is true. Zenon Kasidovsky's books “Bible Tales” and “Tales of the Evangelists”are written in a very entertaining form. Each episode of the Old and New Testaments is analyzed from a materialistic and everyday point of view with the conclusion: it could have been so. Another feature of these books is that the author follows the Bible texts quite accurately, so the books are suitable for initial acquaintance with the Bible, if the original texts are difficult to read.
