  1. The main thing you need to know about this topic is that it is unknown to science and there is no, in the strict sense of the word, scientific answer to this question. Neither positive nor negative. Therefore, when someone overconfidently dekalarizes a certain position, it looks rather ridiculous from the outside. As for other areas of knowledge, there is such a thing as religious thanatology – that section of the faith that describes the posthumous fate and experiences of a person. There are books devoted to this very issue. There are also parascientific, parapsychological studies of the phenomenon of death – in this area, Dr. Raymond Moody became famous, known for his series of books, some of which were even adapted into films (for example, the film “Saved by the Light” with Eric Roberts in the title role).

  2. Yes, of course, with the death of the brain and consciousness disappears. To speak of consciousness as something independent without a brain is like saying that time is something independent, separate from moving matter. But time is only a designation of the movement of the material.

  3. Our consciousness and memory remain after death forever. They are only filtered for positive consciousness. The dead in their minds remember the living and life on Earth. And the living must believe that they are remembered and cared for by the dead. The universe exists because of this mutual memory.

  4. Long understood my answer. We are all expendable elements of an evolution started by someone who doesn't know why. _ _ Consumable items ! How many of them are already lying in cemeteries and there will be even more. And a person wonders-is everything really so simple and crudely arranged ? Yes, that's exactly how simple and crude it is. What about religion, dreams of an afterlife ? It's just an instinct for self-preservation, and nothing else.. In history, brave people are known who decided to commit philosophical suicide in order to find out what was going on “there”, but no one came back or sent messages, so the question remains open, but we are just expendable items . Although it is unclear – and why live long and even more so forever ? Many elderly people realized that eternal life is meaningless, because everything has already been redone, and why do something else ? Lived, it's time and honor to know, make room for new consumable items.

  5. No one will be able to give you an affirmative answer to your question, because all the answers will be subjective and without proof. The fact is that before the incarnation of the spirit, the memory of the spirit is blocked and a person is born as if from a clean slate.A person, except in some cases, does not remember their past lives. And for those who remember some passages from past lives, it is very difficult to prove something to someone. The answer is in you.If you think that with death your ” I ” will completely disappear, then your subconscious mind will shout to you that this can not be.Just think for yourself,if our ” I ” completely disappears after death, then our entire earthly life ceases to have any meaning.

  6. Our mind struggles to imagine, to imagine what goes beyond it. All this will be just a fantasy of the brain.

Will the body live after death? Not)

Are we just the body or not? If you have only explored the body, you will identify with it. Have you tried exploring anything other than the body? Obviously, religion did this. How successful is it? Are all researchers of matter (body) equally successful? We cannot judge the achievements of others where we ourselves have achieved nothing.

  7. Death is the process of exiting / transferring consciousness from the body.
Personality exists only within the body, that is, as long as there is a body and for some time after leaving the body.
Then either the search for a new body and a new birth, or the complete disappearance of the personality and what can be considered our own, our own.
All information is “stored” in the infinite space of Consciousness.

Consciousness has no beginning/birth and no end/death, so it will never cease to exist.
Only the personality (ego, mind) and body disappear.

  8. Science will not give an answer to this question as long as it operates on the interval from birth (conception) to death. But in this interval, it is very difficult to explain the events that are taking place and everything is reduced to randomness. But science accepts and agrees to the causal relationship, and many religions and mystical trends say the same (the law of Karma is nothing more than the law of cause and effect).

Indeed, the entire universe is an extremely logical system, where every effect has its own cause. Simply, the limitations of the human mind cannot comprehend ALL the causes that led to certain consequences. Even ALL the information capacities are not able to do this.

What do other alternative research areas offer? There is a part of the universe that never changes, and there is a part that is constantly changing. In relation to a person (basically a living being), there is a body that is constantly changing (born, growing, aging, dying), and there is a part that does not change at all (not born, not growing, not aging, not dying), and its Soul is called (Atma, higher Self, etc.). And in this scheme, there is a process of consistent logical transition of the higher Self through a series of constantly changing scenery from the beginning of time to the present, as if we are passing through a suite of rooms, where the transition from room to room occurs through death and rebirth.

Personality, memory, and thoughts remain on the threshold of death, but something still passes through this threshold. I think this is an experience gained. Once in a favorable environment, the experience is restored much faster than it is accumulated anew. This can explain the appearance of child prodigies, especially gifted children. This is not an accidental manifestation of “God's” gift, but most likely that I was engaged in this business for a very long time before, gaining experience, and at some point the quantity turned into quality.

  9. Everything remains in the Noosphere and there is this cycle of thoughts and emotions and memory and blah blah…Nothing goes away. In forensic psychiatry, I once read a case of how in the 70s one grandfather in his Muscovite gets into an accident and the consequence is a coma. So I woke up and began to speak in ancient French, which is no longer in sight. Yes, and Bekhtereva has long “dropped” that the idea exists separately somewhere. Plato in the Timaeus on cyclicity and neophilosophy and all sorts of different prophets and so on. The main thing is to read information from there and energy, and somati and nirvana and billions of people who believe in it. You can take a look at Moody or Castaneda and many others. The Bible has all the answers or Anthropogenesis. The choice is yours…)

  10. In my opinion, it doesn't stop. But my full answer is unlikely to satisfy you if it concerns only consciousness.

There is some evidence that indirectly points to the phenomenon of consciousness as not directly related to our brain. These are multiple personalities in one person; memories of things that never happened to a person in his life, up to identifying with the consciousness of other people, relatives or historical figures; remembering previous lives and even allegedly coinciding with the history of real people in the past; acquiring knowledge of foreign languages with head injuries. These phenomena and others like them indicate that consciousness can at least possibly be transmitted from one person to another. Which, with some reasoning, leads to the idea of a possible independent existence of consciousness, but its manifestation is dependent on the brain. I.e., consciousness needs a brain to manifest itself in the world of people.

You can offer such a model. Consciousness is a huge program available to the brain of every person on earth, or rather, to their attention, which can be imagined as a processor with billions of cores. But even for this billion-strong swarm of nuclei, the entire program of Consciousness (universal Consciousness) is not available. This swarm glides through the program of Consciousness and unfolds a picture of the changing world in front of a person. And partly the swarm of people's attention intersects in the field of Consciousness, and they call it the external world, and partly the attention walks in the private corners of Consciousness, and they call it the subjective world. But in this case, both the one and the other world are only minor areas of the gigantic program of Consciousness.

When a person dies, their processor shuts down. At the same time, the program of his subjective world is not going anywhere. And perhaps accidentally, or perhaps according to some special part of the program of Consciousness, the attention of another person may wander into the area of someone else's subjective world. And you can also assume that some people can learn to manage their attention with certain training sessions and consciously “surf” according to the program of Consciousness and go independently to different corners of it, including subjective ones.

This model answers the question posed by the author in the affirmative. I.e., consciousness-the program was before the birth of a person and will remain after his death. However, such an answer does not bring joy. It turns out that our consciousness is not what we are. And then who is watching all this “movies”?

  11. This state can be compared to an electric current that is used in some mechanism or device. Invisible electricity performs different functions depending on the type of equipment it is used for. For example, an electric stove can produce heat, a computer can process information, and a TV can create images and sound. But an electric current never acquires the properties of the equipment it is used for. It just remains a force. Similarly, the life force does not acquire the properties of beings who live off it. This force is neither personal nor intelligent. Therefore, when a person dies, his spirit does not pass to the other world, where spirits live.

Death is the opposite of life. After death, a person's feelings, thoughts, and memories do not continue to exist elsewhere. After death, a person can no longer see, hear, or think.

    The Bible says so directly:

“The living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and there is no reward for them anymore, because their memory is forgotten. Their love, hatred, and jealousy are gone, and they will never have a share in anything that is done under the sun “(Ecclesiastes 9: 5,6).

A person dies and along with him disappears memory, soap and his personality.
But the question arises: Does it really end there?
The Bible speaks of hope for the dead.

  12. No, it doesn't stop.

    Consciousness becomes much clearer.

Memory, habits, emotions of attachment, love-all this remains with the person.

Actually, the man on the Other Side has a body – a better version of the one he had here.

  13. All that is said below concerns the extended comment that the author of the question himself gave in the answer.

In fact, there can only be 2 hypotheses – “matter divides infinitely” and ” matter does not divide infinitely (atomism)”. The first hypothesis also had its supporters, and if scientists proved it many years later, you would now admire the insight of these ancient Greek thinkers, who in our universe did not guess and remained unknown. (Unless, of course, we assume that the infinite divisibility of matter cannot be proved experimentally in principle.)

Similarly, there can be 2 opposite hypotheses – “after death, in some form, there is a continuation of life” and “after death, there is nothing.” In this case, none of the hypotheses can be proved experimentally. However, in favor of the second hypothesis, science has some evidence, albeit indirect, in contrast to the first.

At the everyday philosophical level, the thoughts are as follows. All known concepts of life after death are based on the transfer of consciousness, the personal “I”, as something separate from the material body. However, think about whether your consciousness can be affected financially (for example, narcotic substances). A person's personality changes when a part of the brain is lost (lobotomy). During deep anesthesia or coma, you are not aware of yourself at all. Or in a deep, dreamless sleep. I assume that dying itself is somewhat similar to losing consciousness under anesthesia. If we assume that some part of your “I”, called the soul, remains intact under deep anesthesia and it will remain after death-what is the use of it, how does it differ from”nothing”?

Regarding meaning, or in other words, design. It is this interpretation that is usually meant by the meaning of life, brought by someone from outside the quest that needs to be completed. However, a plan implies someone who is planning it. Otherwise, what is the difference between a spherical design in a vacuum and its absence? Moreover, we come to the concept of God. On this, you can, in general, stop, as most do.

However, when we turn to evolution, we see that living organisms evolve and transform, driven by external conditions and the self-evident laws of natural selection, without any desire for anything definite that could be called design.

You can, of course, turn this around by saying that everything happens with a certain specific goal that you must achieve in your lifetime. But, in my opinion, to think that all this mess with the transformation of the universe, which has been going on for more than 13 billion years, happened precisely for your sake and your quest, is at least selfish.

To think of yourself as so important, so special, and so profound, and then just die stupidly, is really vulgar. To stop hoping for a kick from someone wise and bearded, to set a goal for yourself, to realize yourself as a part of this great ordered chaos, to try to understand yourself, others and the universe in the short time period that exists – you will agree, it sounds quite sublime.

  14. Science will definitely not be able to answer this question, because science studies only those natural phenomena that have the property of repeatability. On the basis of which you can build hypotheses, create experiments, model repeatability conditions, etc., etc. This is a worldview question, i.e. a philosophical one. If we assume that the primary substance, which can be the basis of eternity, does not exist, but only movement, i.e., the transition of one material form to another, is eternal, then the post-mortem existence of consciousness may not exist. If we assume that the basis of everything is a single substance, uncreatable, and therefore indestructible, and, consequently, eternal, then, as a consequence, this implies not only the eternity of human consciousness, but also the eternity of any information process. Substance remembers everything. That is why Engels categorically denied the existence of a single substance in the Dialectic of Nature.

  15. Somehow very concerned about this issue. If all the same our consciousness (thoughts, feelings, memory…) after physical death ceases to exist, then the meaning of earthly life, its finiteness, is not very clear. Everything becomes somehow vulgar, because the result is the same. If a person thinks, feels, searches for meaning in the world order, then he must be! I think something finite doesn't make sense. And that is why I have a glimmer of faith in the infinity of man in every sense, in his immortality.

But I am very afraid of the fact that a person can not be sure of this. The unknown keeps you in constant tension, fear, and this leads to depression.

From the course of philosophy, we know that Leucippus and Democritus (the founders of atomism) intuitively assumed that ” things consist of chemically indivisible particles-atoms. Later, scientists proved the divisibility of the atom… But the very fact of insight is striking. After all, they could not prove scientifically that an atom exists, that a thing consists of some small particles… Maybe a person can answer the question about the immortality of consciousness intuitively correctly without experience ? But the question is, who is this insightful person?

  16. If he turns to the Bible. Ecclesiastes 9: 5, 10 says, ” The dead know nothing… In the grave where you will go, there is no work, no reflection, no knowledge, no wisdom.” In the grave, the dead are unconscious: they don't feel or think anything. It's like they're in a deep sleep. Thus, the Bible shows that God does not take people to heaven. When they die, they are buried in the grave.Jesus Christ confirmed this biblical truth when his friend Lazarus died. Jesus compared death to sleep. If Lazarus were to go to God in heaven, it would be merciless of Jesus to bring Lazarus back to life on earth, where he would eventually die again. The Bible says that when Jesus came to the tomb, he cried out with a loud voice, ” Lazarus, come out!”: “And the man who was dead came out.” Lazarus came alive. Jesus knew that Lazarus did not go to heaven. When he died, he was buried in the grave (John 11:11-14, 34, 38-44). The biblical truth about the state of the dead confirms that they do not suffer in hellfire or purgatory. When they die, they are buried in the grave. After death, a person disappears along with his consciousness. “His spirit goes out, and he returns to his own land:on that Day all his thoughts will vanish.”Psalms 145: 4When a person dies, his thoughts, consciousness, and memory also die.

  17. Everything in the space of our third dimension is energy. From matter (i.e., concentrated energy) to thought (a special type of psychic energy). And Consciousness is a holographic substance that materializes perceived and processed sensory images… In General, the question is not easy to understand. I will briefly answer: THERE is NO DEATH !!!
