Hedonism is based on a very interesting idea. The only good is physical pleasure. That is, something real and felt by me as pleasant. In other words, the hedonist believes that you should trust the body – the body will not deceive (it will directly tell you whether it is delicious or not, pleasant or not). But you should not trust the mind: it will justify with sophisms that black is white. A contradiction is clearly brewing here: the hedonist reasons and convinces himself/others with the mind, but does not trust it.
And, of course, the pursuit of pleasure is a bit of a paradox. The more you want to get something, the more you suffer until you get it. It turns out that in some cases it would be good not to want at all, and not to get weak satisfaction after a long suffering. However, the hedonist sees no other strategies than ” if you want, you have to have fun.” This position is popularly called “steal, but drink”. It leads to problems – with the law, with health, with other people. The philosopher Hegesius generally believed that the logical outcome for a hedonist is suicide.
And most importantly: the hedonist does not value culture highly, but only it provides a variety of ways to enjoy yourself. After all, if you use one way to get pleasure, then alas, you will soon stop getting it (this is how our dopamine receptors work).
There's nothing wrong with hedonism. This is a great rational life strategy. Problems with brains and fundamental unpredictability of the future.
If hedonism is reformulated as an attitude of getting maximum pleasure during life, pain and other displeasures are defined as negative pleasure, and pleasure during life is considered as an integral of pleasure over time, then it is not difficult to see that all intuitively correct life attitudes will come from this formula.
For example, if alcoholism leads to a quick and painful death, then hedonism recommends that you drink in moderation. And no smoking.
The problem arises with the idea now, in his youth, to invest all his strength in a career, and then enjoy the fruits of well-being. It may or may not work. And youth will pass and you will not return.
But there is still no better life strategy.
The problems of hedonism are similar to the problems of alcohol, delicious food, sex and everything else that people usually do after the end of the work week.
The phrase fully fits hedonism: “those who were not hedonists in their youth have no “love of life”; those who remain hedonists in their old age have no intelligence.”
The material basis of hedonism is resources inherited from above and from parents.
Hedonism is in the “green” zone when a person is engaged in it moderately and after the end of the working week.
Orange zone of hedonism, when a person by the age of 33-35 continues to hedonize on Monday-Tuesday. Or grab an extra dose of” hedonism ” wherever you can during your lunch break.
The orange zone will definitely indicate to the hedonist that the “red zone” is approaching: the smoker-calls with a cough, the alcohol lover-loss of his own will, the overeater – diseases of overeating, loss of libido, etc.
The one who does not hear the bells from his nature, and call the very word that still has a positive image: “hedonism”. And this term justifies his inability to pull himself together. The Denial stage of the problem.
What is WRONG with this strategy is that the “hedonist” tries to justify unconscious, uncontrolled and very subtle self-destruction, as in the famous experience with a frog placed in a pot of cold water and heated over low heat.
What is wrong with hedonism is that hedonism is made the goal of life. Although in fact, pleasure is a natural reaction of the body-designed to be a reward for the work done. That is, to be a means. Then everything will be exactly as it should be. And so it happens with those who are in the subject.
When pleasure is torn away from its purpose and turned into the goal of life, we can safely say: something is wrong with hedonism. And as a result-a mental and physical collapse.
I figured out a psychomatrix, and it turned out that I was a hedonist .I think that this is a”sentence”, it turns out.Yes, the pleasure of the body is part of our essence, just like the pleasure of reading a book, and the experience of life made it clear, yes, the body called, and through sensuality ,which is the “body”, events occurred that corresponded to them ,and “be afraid of your desires” played its “joke”.In this regard ,we are all essentially hedonists, to one degree or another ,and it is worse if you have become “thick-skinned” and the body does not feel and no longer calls ,and life becomes boring after that .And then they wonder where apathy to everything comes from, and relatively recently, they come to know, in direct connection, the presence of joy in life from the body to Everything, the Soul does not speak ,it feels ☝ ️
“A contradiction is clearly brewing here: the hedonist reasons and convinces himself/others with his mind, but does not trust it. “
Not trusting the mind does not mean not using it. The test of loyalty-not loyalty happens in practice – whether it brought pleasure or not.
So there is no contradiction.
Probably Pompeii was dominated by hedonists, but as you know, God covered it with ashes .I don't like that the topic of children causes them denial ,children are a hindrance for them, they need to be taken care of ,which means depriving yourself of something you love….sleep, rest, etc.
Hedonism is a teaching that says that the good in life is one's own enjoyment. What's wrong with it is that it doesn't teach you how to do it. Probably because of this, some hedonists consider it the highest good to die from the maximum intake of narcotic substances in the body, which makes it possible to call hedonism destructive.
